Tom Hopkins

September 26, 1935 — March 17, 2017

Thomas Edward Hopkins of Old Mines, Missouri was born on September 26, 1935 in Shibboleth, Missouri. A son of the late, Myrtle Ann (Portell) Hopkins and the late, James Edward Hopkins. Tom departed this life on March 17, 2017 at his residence having reached the age of eighty-one years, five months and nineteen days.

Tom was united in marriage to Carrie Strauser on January 16, 1974 in St. Louis, Missouri and they were blessed with forty-three years of marriage.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Hopkins of Old Mines, Missouri; four daughters, Leslie Summers and Brian Cox of Blackwell, Missouri; Lori Horton and husband, Chris of Blackwell, Missouri; Teresa Cusick of St. Clair, Missouri; Dawn Nixon and husband, Nick of Old Mines, Missouri; one son, Gregory Daugherty and wife, Chrissy of Old Mines, Missouri; ten grandchildren: Scarlett, Charley, Lainey, Shane, Kayla, Dylan, Rachel, Brandon, Joshua and Mallory; five great-grandchildren: Xavier, Sophia, Ava, Austin and Adaline; sister-in-law, Glenda Hopkins of Old Mines, Missouri; brother-in-law, Richard Lambing of Sullivan, Missouri; special and dear family friend, Monica Pashia of Old Mines, Missouri; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and James Hopkins, four sisters, Anne Hasty, Fannie Mae Price, Mildred Ann Wolk, infant Angie Cecile Hopkins, one brother, Harry Hopkins and niece, Janice Humphrey.

Tom was a loving, caring man who loved writing his wife poems, was a historian at heart and was always telling stories. He was the owner and operator of a service and convenience store for seventeen years and known for doing good business transactions. A past President of the Textile Workers Union from 1954 to 1964. A parishioner of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines. Tom enjoyed working on his property, gardening, riding the tractor and tinkering around with just about anything, rigging ups gadgets to do or help with a job or task. Most of all Tom loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren who were the light of his life. He will be forever remembered for the love and laughter he shared with all.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri with Father Tony Dattilo officiating.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri. Honoring Tom by serving as pallbearers were: Gregory Daugherty, Chris Horton, Nick Nixon, Brian Cox, Wil Jarvis, Dylan Jarvis, Josh Cusick and Brandon Cusick.
