Obituary for Theodore Pieper
Father Theodore “Ted” Xavier Pieper of Potosi, Missouri was fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on October 18, 2017 surrounded by the love and care of his dear family and his guardian angels. Father was born February 17, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Theodore Xavier Pieper and the late Jeannette (McGlynn) Pieper. Father was eighty-two years, eight months and one day of age at his homecoming.
Father Ted is survived by his brother, Jerry Pieper and his wife Rosemary of O’Fallon, Missouri and their children. He is also survived by many other dear and special parishioners, priests, and other friends.
Father Ted was a dear and caring man, not only to his church but also to anyone he came in contact with. The well-being of others was always a priority to him.
Father Ted was baptized into the Catholic Church and the protection of his savior on March 10, 1935. He was ordained in the priesthood on April 7, 1962. This was the beginning of a life that touched souls throughout the world. On May 2, 1962 he began at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Festus, Missouri; August 10, 1965 he moved to the Archdiocesan Mission Band in Bolivia; May 25, 1978 he was Associate Pastor, Our Lady of Fatima, Florissant, Missouri; June 2, 1981 he went to the Latin American Apostolate in Bolivia; June 21, 1987 he began a new chapter in not only his life but this local community as the Pastor and Shephard of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri; On June 18, 2013 he began what was thought to be his retirement and moving to private residence but continued his love and care for the people of the area; in 2016 he moved his residence to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Ann, Missouri where he continued blessing the people.
Father Ted was not only a Priest and a Shephard to the people of this area, he spread his love to all faiths and continued to visit and care for those at local nursing homes, hospitals and residences. He will long be remembered for his acts of love and charity, hard work in manual labor, his many different hats and his constant smile and goodwill.
Visitation was held Friday, October 20, 2017 at 5:00 PM to 9:00PM and then a solemn vigil was held throughout the night with prayers and the sharing of memories until Funeral time at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joachim Catholic Church at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 21, 2017 with Bishop Mark S. Rivituso, Auxiliary Bishop and Father Tony Datillo offering the eulogy. Music was provided by the St. Joachim Choir and community.
Final Prayers and burial was held at the St. Joachim Catholic Church Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri. Honoring the life and memory of Father Ted and serving as Pallbearers were Joshua Ebbesmeyer, Teddy Ebbesmeyer, Ben Ebbesmeyer, Chris Ebbesmeyer, Roberto Garcia, Cruzita Garcia, Von Honaker-Pieper and David Pieper. Readers for the Mass was Marie Ebbesmeyer, Jamie Ebbesmeyer and Cruzita Garcia. Gift Bearers were George Garcia, Teddy Ebbesmeyer and Roberto Garcia. Following the services, the family, priests and community enjoyed time at a dinner reception prepared by the parish family.
