John J. Boyer of Potosi, Missouri, was born July 1, 1927, in Old Mines, Missouri, a son of the late Columbus Willis and Irean Marie (Hayes) Boyer. John departed this life September 3, 2018, having reached the age of 91 Years, 2 Months and 2 Days.
John was united in marriage to the late June (Nicholson) Boyer on March 30, 1953, in Farmington, MO.
John is survived by one daughter, Tammy Juliette of Mora, MO, three sons, Rick Boyer and wife Lisa of Aurora, MO, Bruce Boyer and wife Catherine of Mineral Point, MO, Kirk Boyer of Ballwin, MO, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, close family friend and companion, Hilda Volner of Potosi, MO and by many other relatives and friends.
John was a lifelong member of the St. James Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was active in its many activities. John had served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1952. During his military career Corporal John Boyer earned the good conduct medal, Army of occupation medal and the WWII victory medal. Corporal Boyer was honorably discharged from the United States Army on December 16, 1952.
John was very active in the community where he served on many boards and with many organizations. He served on the Potosi R-3 School District Board of education from 1977 to 1983, City of Potosi Alderman Ward I, and City of Potosi Police Commissioner and on the board of the Sayers Senior Center. His organization memberships included the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218, where he was a charter member of 58 years, Exalted Ruler, trustee and a grand lodge member, Knights of Columbus Washington County Council 5936, the VFW Washington County Post 6996 and the Potosi Lions Club. During John’s working career he was employed as a truck driver, worked in the mining industry and owned and operated his own full service gas stations.
