Timothy Greg Edgar

Timothy Greg Edgar of Potosi, Missouri was born on March 31, 1950 in Ironton, Missouri a son of the late, Dollie (McCabe) Royer and Edmond Edgar. Greg departed this life on December 1, 2008 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of fifty-eight years, eight months and one day.

Greg was united in marriage to Mary Jo Cordia on February 6, 1971 at St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri and this union was blessed with three sons.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Edgar of Potosi, Missouri; three sons, David Brian Edgar and wife, Shannon of Eureka, Missouri, Jason B. Edgar and wife, Colleen of Blue Springs, Missouri, Christopher Michael Edgar of Potosi, Missouri; stepmother, Marie Edgar of Potosi, Missouri; one sister, Pam Brann of Marshfield, Missouri; two half sisters, Tina Eckhoff and husband, Kevin of Potosi, Missouri, Cindy Rousan and husband, Bruce of Ware, Missouri; two stepsisters, Sherry Vance of Rolla, Missouri, Glenda Drennen of Potosi, Missouri; two stepbrothers, Jerry Vance and wife, Paula of Potosi, Missouri, Randy Vance of Potosi, Missouri; six grandchildren, Cody, Cory, Trenton, Ashley, Allison Paige and Tate; mother-in-law, Fran Cordia of Potosi, Missouri; sister-in-law, Sheila Edgar of Clearwater, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Marilyn Cordia and their family, Mike, Jr., Melissa, Dillon and Abi of Potosi, Missouri; also surviving are many other relatives and many many friends. In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by one brother, Dana “Danny” Edgar, half sister, Kim Fondren, paternal grandmother and the lady who raised him, Ona Edgar.

Greg served his country by enlisting into the United States Army on February 25, 1970. While serving he received the National Defense Medal, Sharpshooter Badge (M-16) and the Expert Badge (Hand Grenade). Greg was separated from active duty on January 8, 1972 and received an honorable discharge on February 24, 1976. He then used his GI Bill to further his education.

Greg loved his family, especially his grandchildren and being with his friends. He was a member of the Potosi Elks Lodge # 2218 and Past Exalted Ruler and enjoyed helping with all their functions, especially steak nights. Greg also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and loved to cook, work in the yard and tending to the landscaping at the car lot. He was a board member of First State Community Bank. As a young man he worked at Mercantile Bank. Greg worked for Century Tel for thirty years holding many titles, starting as business office supervisor and working up to district operations manager. He was also a partner in a car business with the late, Monroe Harvey. Greg loved life and lived it to the fullest and enjoyed working seven days a week.

Visitation was held Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Joe Welschmeyer officiating. Serving as pallbearers W

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Redbud Memorial Gardens, Potosi, Missouri. Where Greg received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation.

Baby Gavin James Aubuchon was received by the Heavenly Angels on November 28, 2008.

Gavin is survived by his mother and father, Cagney Watson and Jarod Aubuchon of Cadet, Missouri; half sister, Kaitlyn Aubuchon of Potosi, Missouri; half brother, Alex Aubuchon of Potosi, Missouri; maternal grandparents, Leasa and Bucky Hawkins of Potosi, Missouri; paternal grandparents, Kevin and Deborah Aubuchon of Cadet, Missouri; maternal great grandparents, Pat and Dennis Hawkins of Potosi, Missouri; paternal great grandparents, Leon and Martha Aubuchon of Cadet, Missouri; maternal great great grandmother, Laverne Rowe of Potosi, Missouri; also surviving are many other relatives.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Lakewood Baptist Cemetery, Shirley, Missouri.

East, Aaron “Buckshot”

Aaron “Buckshot” Henderson East

Aaron “Buckshot” East of Potosi, Missouri was born on June 13, 1944 in Potosi, Missouri a son of the late, Maude Marie (Lewis) East and Herschel Clyde East, Sr..  Aaron departed this life on November 25, 2008 at the Des Peres Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of sixty-four years, five months and twelve days.

Aaron was united in marriage to Julia “Judy” Battreal on May 21, 1977 in Potosi, Missouri.

“Buckshot” is survived by his wife, Judy East of Potosi, Missouri; three daughters, Penny Burns and husband, Wayne of Potosi, Missouri, Sherry Battreal of Potosi, Missouri, Michelle Boyer and husband, Brian of Potosi, Missouri; two sons, Graylan East and wife, Linda of Potosi, Missouri, Danny East and wife, Jamie of Potosi, Missouri; adopted daughter, Edna Boyer of Potosi, Missouri; one brother, Mark East and wife, Ronda of Long Beach, California; sister-in-law, Mary “Judy” East of Potosi, Missouri; brother-in-law, Albert Neff of Potosi, Missouri; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends including, George McAntire of St. James, Missouri.  In addition to his parents, Aaron was preceded in death by his stepmother, Wilma East, one sister, Gladys Ann Neff, two brothers, Herschel C. “Jack” East, Jr. and William Lewis East.

“Buck” was baptized at the St. James Parish on October 27, 1981.  He and Judy then renewed their vows and got married in the Catholic Church on October 31, 1981.  “Buck” received his first communion on November 1, 1981 and was confirmed with his two daughters, Sherry and Michelle on April 20, 1986 at the Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri.  He drove the St. James church van, was an usher and helped with the Parish festivals, cooking chicken for many years, which gave him great joy.

Aaron was a very dedicated parishioner of the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri.  He was a current member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5936, Old Mines, Missouri.  “Buck” loved Mother Nature and enjoying her many beautiful gifts by spending time in the outdoors, hunting, with his favorites being rabbit and deer, camping, doing lawn work and gardening.  He did bodywork for forty-five years and was well known all over by many car dealers.  “Buck” was a member of Machinist Local #777 of St. Louis, Missouri.  He also owned East End Bow Shop for ten years.

Visitation was held Friday, November 28, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, November 29, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Joe Welschmeyer and Monsignor James Hanson officiating.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.  Serving as pallbearers were: Rodney Jones, Randy Elliott, Brian DeClue, Matt Gibson, Bill Neff, Randy Mull, Scott Litton, Kenny Boyer, Marty Litton, Dave Heifner and honorary pallbearers, Tim Battreal and Colby Boyer.

Lawson, Woodrow

Woodrow Charles Lawson

Woodrow “Big Woody” Lawson of Bonne Terre, Missouri was born on June 5, 1940 in Potosi, Missouri and departed this life on November 25, 2008 having reached the age of sixty-eight years, five months and twenty days.

Woodrow is survived by two daughters, Kelly R. Lawson, Leigh Ann Skiles and husband, Chuckie; three sons, Woodrow C. Lawson, Jr. and wife, Tammy, Randall L. Lawson, Jeffrey W. Lawson; Mother, Dorothy V. (DeClue) Lawson; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel A. Lawson.

“Big Woody” enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards and coaching softball.  He always enjoyed the many gifts of Mother Nature, going camping, hunting mushrooms, shooting guns, target practicing.

Visitation was held Friday, November 28, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Service was held Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Roger Taber officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were: Stanley Conway, Zachary Lawson, Ronald Mason, Jr., Andrew “Lumpy” Hayes, Mike DeClue and Jeff C. Lawson.

Phillips, Carter “Jake” Wayne

Carter “Jake” Wayne Phillips

Carter “Jake” Phillips of Mineral Point, Missouri was born on May 7, 1936 in Mineral Point, Missouri, a son of the late, Stella (Masson) Phillips-Penberthy and Rufus G. Phillips.  Carter departed this life on November 16, 2008 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-two years, six months and nine days.

Carter was united in marriage to Verda Jane Jenkins on October 24, 1959 in Potosi, Missouri and were blessed with three daughters.

Carter is survived by his loving wife, Verda Jane Phillips of Mineral Point, Missouri; three daughters, Roxanna Williams and husband, Terry of Mineral Point, Missouri, Lisa Clapp of Potosi, Missouri, Paula Williams of Mineral Point, Missouri; one sister, Fay Fischer of Bonne Terre, Missouri; one brother, Richard “Tom” Phillips and wife, Margaret of Potosi, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Amy Williams, Jamie Williams, Sarah Bourisaw and husband, Kenny, Jennifer Clapp and friend, Jason Pinson, Samantha Williams, Brittnee Williams and Cody Williams; five great grandchildren, Tyler Aubuchon, Riley and Reece Michalek, Kenny and Natalie Bourisaw; sister-in-law, Erleen and Jerry Coleman; brother-in-law, Quinten Jenkins, Jr. and wife, Dolly; special friend and cousin, “Duck” Donald LaChance; special friend, Earnest “Stormy” Bennett.  Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, Carter was preceded in death by Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Quinten and Ethel Jenkins, brother-in-law, Don Fischer and his faithful companion “Freddy” his dachshund.

Carter served in the United States Army enlisting on July 1, 1954 and receiving an honorable discharge on January 30, 1958.  While serving his country, Carter was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska where he was a Military Police Specialist.

Carter or “Jake” as his family and many friends knew him, enjoyed spending time in Branson, fishing.  He was retired from General Motors, Truck and Bus Division.  He served as Washington County Deputy for around thirty years and as a special investigator for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as well as serving on the Washington County Ambulance Board for several years.  After many years of faithful service to his community and his fellow mankind, he completely retired in 2002.  During his younger years “Jake” played on the “Ozarks Freeze” baseball team and enjoyed watching sports on television.

Carter’s greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  They were his pride and joy and he derived pleasure from each of them.  Carter loved his life and lived it to the fullest, leaving behind a loving family and many friends who will miss his wit, wisdom and always present stories.  His spirit will live on in all who were privileged to have known him.

Visitation was held Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Service was held Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Compton officiating.  Honoring Carter by serving as pallbearers were: Greg Coleman, Donald LaChance, Terry Williams, Brian Williams, Drew Coleman, Robert Michalek, Kenny Bourisaw, Richard Bobbett and Kelly Williams.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Scott Cemetery, Belgrade, Missouri where Carter received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation.

Ruby Walker

Ruby Walker of Potosi, Missouri was born on April 5, 1917 in Quaker, Missouri a daughter of the late, Pearl (Martin) Tedder and Charles Tedder.  Ruby departed this life on November 6, 2008 at the Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center, Farmington, Missouri having reached the age of ninety-one years, seven months and one day.

Ruby is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Nipper and husband, Cyril of Potosi, Missouri; two sons, Charles Wilborn and wife, Teresita of San Diego, California, John Mason of Potosi, Missouri; one sister, Edith Nipper of Belgrade, Missouri; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Doris Tedder of San Diego, California; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents,  Ruby was preceded in death by three husbands, James Wilborn, Clifton Mason and Bill Walker, one son, Dallas Wilborn, three brothers, Theodore Tedder, Harvey Tedder and Martin Tedder, two sisters, Jewel Carlsen and Marie Tedder.

Ruby enjoyed square dancing, sewing, camping and gardening.  She was an avid reader with her favorite being romance novels.  Ruby had worked for many different companies through the years with a few being, Brown Shoe Factory, Convair Aircraft, Vicker Electric Company and did domestic work for others taking care of their residences.  She also enjoyed attending church services at the nursing center.  Ruby was a very kind woman who will be greatly missed by the many lives she has touched.

Visitation was held Sunday, November 9, 2008 from 12:3- PM to 3:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi.

HOMER B. NEWCOMER

HOMER BENJAMIN NEWCOMER OF POTOSI, WAS BORN APRIL 30, 1923 IN CADET, MISSOURI A SON OF THE LATE STELLA MARIE (REANDO) NEWCOMER AND ELMER JACKSON NEWCOMER. HOMER DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2008 AT HIS HOME. HOMER WAS EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS, SIX MONTHS AND EIGHT DAYS OF AGE.

HOMER WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO LOUISE WILKINSON ON JULY 30, 1954 IN POTOSI AT THE POTOSI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. THEY WERE BLESSED TO HAVE FIFTY-FOUR BEAUTIFUL YEARS TOGETHER.

HOMER IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING AND DEVOTED WIFE, LOUISE NEWCOMER OF POTOSI, ONE DAUGHTER, ANITA SMITH AND HUSBAND MARK OF JACKSON, ONE SON DR. GARY NEWCOMER OF GAINESVILLE, FLORIDIA, TWO LOVING AND CHERISHED GRANDDAUGHTERS, RACHEL SMITH AND EMILY SMITH BOTH OF JACKSON, ONE BROTHER, ALFRED NEWCOMER AND WIFE BEVERLY OF POTOSI AND BY MANY OTHER DEAR AND SPECIAL RELATIVES AND FRIENDS. HOMER HAD ATTENDED THE POTOSI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AND ALWAYS ENJOYED THE FELLOWSHIP.

HOMER WAS AN ACTIVE MAN AND LEADER IN THE COMMUNITY FOR MANY YEARS. HIS LOVE FOR THIS COUNTRY GUIDED HIM INTO THE COAST GUARD DURING WORLD WAR II. HE HAD RECEIVED MANY COMMENDATIONS WHILE ENLISTED INCLUDING A LICENSE TO ENGINEER VESSELS, LICENSE TO ASSISTANT ENGINEER OF STEAM VESSELS AND THE FIRST AID TO THE INJURED. AFTER HIS SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY HE RETURNED HOME TO CONTINUE TO WORK FOR THE BETTERMENT AND PROSPERITY OF THE POTOSI COMMUNITY. HE OPENED AN OIL, GAS AND SERVICE STATION AND CONTINUED TO OPERATE IT FOR SOME TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. HE ALSO BECAME WELL KNOWN FOR HIS LOVE AND KNOWLEDGE IN THE ANGUS CATTLE BUSINESS, WHICH WAS STILL VERY ACTIVE AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH. HE WAS A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN ANGUS ASSOCIATION. HE HAD A POULTRY PROCESSING BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS. HE WAS A PAST MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE POTOSI LIONS CLUB AND A PAST MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE WASHINGTON COUNTY FAIR BOARD. HOMER WAS ONE OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF THE POTOSI FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT, BEING THE FIRST CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD AND RETIRED FROM THE DISTRICT AFTER SERVING FOR SOME TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS. HE WAS PAST CHAIRMAN OF THE WASHINGTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE AND SERVED ON THE MISSOURI STATE REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE.

HOMER’S GREATEST LOVE WAS WHEN HIS DAUGHTER ANITA BROUGHT INTO HIS LIFE TWO VERY SPECIAL DIAMONDS, RACHEL AND EMILY. NO MATTER HOW BAD OF A DAY HE HAD, HE COULD CLOSE HIS EYES AND PICTURE THESE GIRLS OR GET A PHONE CALL FROM THEM AND HIS BURDENS WERE GONE. THEY WERE THE SPARKLE OF HIS EYE AND THE WARMTH TO HIS HEART.

HOMER WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS MANY DEEDS TO THE COMMUNITY, HIS LOVE FOR HIS FAMILY AND HIS OPENNESS TO TALK AND LEAVE YOU WITH TRUTH, KINDNESS AND A SMILE.

VISITATION WAS HELD SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2008 FROM 2:00 PM TO 9:00 PM AND MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2008 FROM 8:30 AM TO 11:00 AM AT THE MOORE FUNERAL HOME.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2008 AT 11:00 AM AT THE MOORE MEMORIAL CHAPEL WITH REVEREND BRUCE PITTMAN OFFICIATING. JOANN ELSEY AND HOLLY TURNER PROVIDED THE MUSICAL SELECTIONS FOR THE SERVICE.

Arndt, Herman

Herman Leroy Arndt

Herman Arndt of Potosi, Missouri was born on February 7, 1922 in Cantwell, Missouri a son of the late, William Allen Arndt and Florence (Wells) Arndt.  Herman departed this life on November 4, 2008 at the St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-six years, eight months and twenty-eight days.

Herman was united in marriage to Vivian Bernice Copeland on April 29, 1950 in Piggott, Arkansas and this union was blessed with one son.

Herman is survived by one son, Richard Arndt and wife, Cathy of Mineral Point, Missouri; very special friend, Pansy Fowler of Mineral Point, Missouri; and her family, three daughters, Sondra Hollingsworth and husband, Tony of Potosi, Missouri, Melissa Glore and husband, Lindell Ray of Mineral Point, Missouri, Diana Sampson and husband, Ryan of Cadet, Missouri, and their children: Walley, Bryan, Morgan, Chad, Seth, Paige, Bryan, Carlie and Tyler; special friend, Lee Rolens of Shirley, Missouri; also surviving are other relatives and many, many friends.  In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Arndt, one infant daughter, Vicki Lynn Arndt, four brothers, Alvin Arndt, Raymond “Sam” Arndt, Bernie Arndt and Aulden Arndt.

Herman served this country by enlisting into the United States Army on December 22, 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri serving during World War II in New Guinea.  While serving he was awarded four bronze stars, the good conduct medal, meritorious service unit plaque.  Herman was honorably discharged on December 4, 1945.

Herman, Richard and Cathy joined the First Freewill Baptist Church in Potosi on June 10, 1996 and enjoyed serving the Lord.

Herman was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6996.  He loved life, living everyday to the fullest.  Herman worked for Campbell 66 Trucking Company for twenty-three years.  During his retirement years he enjoyed delivering vehicles for local car dealers and worked as a mechanic for many years.  He enjoyed camping and stockcar driving in his younger years.  Herman also enjoyed going and spending time with friends at the Sayer Senior Center.

Visitation was held Friday, November 7, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Service was held Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Don Strauser officiating.  Honoring Herman by serving as pallbearers were: Mike Arndt, Lindell Glore, Ryan Sampson, Billy Arndt, Bryan Hollinsworth and Randy Faulkner.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Boss Cemetery, Boss, Missouri where Herman received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation.

Janice Lorene O’Connell

Janice O’Connell of Farmington, Missouri formerly of Potosi, Missouri was born on November 11, 1940 in Aptus, Missouri a daughter of the late, Lucille (Pittman) Berry-Sanders and Herbert Berry.  Janice departed this life on November 2, 2008 at the St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of sixty-seven years, eleven months and twenty-two days.

Janice was united in marriage to Paul Neely on January 27, 1962.  She was later married to Joseph O’Connell on November 26, 1988.

Janice is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Larson and husband, Stan of Kansas City, Missouri, Brenda Cover of Magnolia, Texas; three brothers, Marvin Berry of Catoosa, Oklahoma, Claude Berry and wife, Brenda of Potosi, Missouri, Denver Berry and wife, Trish of Warsaw, Kentucky; also surviving are nieces, nephews, her first husband, Paul Neely, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her second husband, Joseph O’Connell and one infant brother, John Delbert Berry.

Janice enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, crafts, painting pictures and decorating her home.   All of Janice’s loved ones would refer to her as “Janice-of-all-Trades” as she was always doing home repairs, painting and wallpapering. She was always ready to tackle any chore and would never give up on any project. Janice will be lovingly remembered as a very independent lady with a strong determination and a great love for all mankind.

Memorial Visitation was held Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Elder Leonard Compton officiating.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.

Stevens, Robert E.

Robert E. Stevens

Robert E. Stevens of Potosi, Missouri was born on November 28, 1935 in Cairo, Illinois a son of the late, Ada Lavern (Moore) Stevens and Ollie Melton Stevens.  Robert departed this life on October 21, 2008 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-two years, ten months and twenty-three days.

Robert is survived by one son, Timothy Stevens of Potosi, Missouri and one brother, David Larry Steven.  In addition to his parents Robert was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Stevens.

Visitation was held Friday, October 24, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Graveside service was held Friday, October 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri with Pastor Wendell Nipper officiating.

Burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
