Dorothy Elgene Allen of Caledonia, Missouri was born Tuesday, May 20, 1924 in Leadwood, Missouri a daughter of the late Jodie Mae (Gillam) and Lawrence Edward Gillam. Elgene was received by the Angels of Heaven Monday, December 22, 2003 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, Potosi, Missouri at the age of Seventy-Nine Years, Seven Months and Two Days.
Elgene was united in marriage to Virgil Allen October 7, 1944 in Potosi, Missouri. They were blessed to share Fifty-Nine Years with each other.
Elgene is survived by her loving and devoted husband Virgil Allen of Caledonia, Missouri; Two Daughters, Charlotte Boyer and husband Tom "Yogi" of Potosi, Missouri, Nancy Crump of Potosi, Missouri; One son Dale Allen and wife Claire of Potosi, Missouri; Two Brothers, Lindell Gillam and wife Bertha of Sheridan, Wyoming, Danny Gillam and wife Judy of Potosi, Missouri; Seven Grandchildren, Theresa Propst of Desloge, Missouri, Angie Boyer of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jodie Burns of Nixa, Missouri, Shaen Merx of Rolla, Missouri, Chad Allen of Potosi, Missouri, David Crump of Potosi, Missouri and Priscilla Allen of Potosi, Missouri; Six Great Grandchildren, Tia Propst of Desloge, Missouri, Travis Smith of Nixa, Missouri, Mackenzie Burns of Nixa, Missouri, Breann Eye of Potosi, Missouri, Emily Merx of Cadet, Missouri and Trenton Allen of Potosi, Missouri; Aunt Laura Nicholson of Belgrade, Missouri; Nieces, Lisa Sutton, Jana Gillam, Sara Gillam and Linnette McClellan; Nephews Rickey Gillam and Joe Gillam and by many other relatives and dear friends.
Elgene was a long time member of the Caledonia Methodist Church, Caledonia, Missouri where she was very active in it's many activities, she especially enjoyed the Women's Group.
Elgene was a Board Member of the Washington County Farm Bureau for many years. She enjoyed traveling looking at Historical Sites with her traveling companion Rowena Allen. Elgene loved to spend time sewing and doing needlework. She would always take time to relax with a good history book.
Visitation was held Tuesday, December 23, 2003 from 3:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and Wednesday, December 24, 2003 from 9:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Moore Funeral Homes, Potosi, Missouri.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton and Reverend Linda Nelson Officiating. Musical selections played were "Our First Day in Heaven", "One Day At A Time" and "How Great Thou Art" Sang by the Dodd Sisters.
Grave side services and Burial was in the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery, Caledonia, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Rickey Gillam, Joe Gillam, Jesse Jarvis, Tim Allen, Jerry Jenkins, Jimmy Allen and Howard Lewis.
Memorial donations were to be directed to the Washington County Memorial Hospital Trust Fund, 300 Health Way Drive, Potosi, Missouri 63664.
Arrangements were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
