John Jacob Christopher Aufner of Potosi, Missouri was born May 15, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri a son of the late Catherine Aufner Danzazinsks (Wiederholdt) and Frank J. Aufner. John departed this life at his home at the age of Eighty-five years, Ten months and Nine days.
John was united to Billie M. Hamilton in Arnold, Missouri on November 22, 1941. They were blessed to have two loving and devoted daughters born to the union. Billie preceded John in death on April 6, 1984.
John is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Barb Aufner of Potosi, Missouri, Johnel Casey and husband Don of Batavia, Illinois, two sisters, Alberta Brennecke and husband James of St. Louis, Missouri, Catherine Friedman and husband Fran of Hillsboro, Missouri, three brothers, Frank Aufner of St. James, Missouri, Carl Aufner and wife Jeanne of Kansas City, Missouri, Paul Aufner and wife Juanita of Annapolis, Missouri, five grandchildren, Mike Jacobsen and wife Joni of Potosi, Missouri, Steve Jacobsen and wife Tiffany of Fenton, Missouri, John Wartenbe and wife Mari of Cortland, Illinois, Scott Wartenbe of Batavia, Illinois, Dawn Eckard and husband Al of Hillsboro, Missouri, ten great grandchildren, Sarah, Jon Luke, Noah, Billie, Isabelle, Mia, Katherine, Tom, David and Aaron, one uncle, Robert “Bob” Garland of the state of Connecticut and by many other relatives and dear and special friends. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by one sister, Janette Van Doren and one step sister, Ann Kraft, one step brother, Frank Danzazinsks.
John was a kind and friendly man that was always up to making you smile and laugh, a practical joke was right down his road and he was ready with a come back in a second. John loved telling jokes and stories. He enjoyed traveling and taking time to go to the horse races with his friends and family. He would travel every morning to get the daily paper and then spend hours searching through it for the articles of his interest to share or jab his family and friends. In prior years John enjoyed playing golf.
John had a given wit about him to deal with life’s many valleys and peaks. He had a true answer and help for your problems and had a genuine love for everyone in his life.
John retired from Lindbergh Cadillac with over 35 years of service, he was a retired member of the Machinist Union #777 District 9.
John was a long time member of the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218 where he was very active in its many activities and fund raisers. He had served as the Lodge Chaplain for many years. John’s virtues will be written in stone and his faults in the sand.
John was a remarkable person not only for his longevity, but for the intensity and clarity of focus with which he lived his life. He will always be remembered for the love he shared and the memories he has given each of us.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 26, 2006 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Pastor Bill Brammer officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Kris Richards, Jerry West, Hoyet Hultberg, Wm. H. “Bill” Gum, Tom Worthen, and Mike Missey.
Entombment took place in the New Masonic Mausoleum, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
