ELIJA BARTON OF CADET, MISSOURI, WAS BORN ON AUGUST 9, 1912 AT OATES, MISSOURI. A SON OF THE LATE JAMES AND JULIE (PARKS) BARTON . ELIJA DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON OCTOBER 17, 1999 AT WASHINGTON COUNTY HOSPITAL IN POTOSI, MISSOURI, AT THE AGE OF EIGHTY SEVEN YEARS, TWO MONTHS AND EIGHT DAYS.
ELIJA WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO THE LATE ETHELYN "TINY" (GREENLEE) BARTON ON MARCH 8, 1932 IN HILLSBORO, MISSOURI.
ELIJA LEAVES TO SURVIVE HIM TWO SONS, BURGESS AND WIFE CHRISTINE BARTON OF CADET, MISSOURI, CARL BARTON OF HOUSTON, TEXAS. ONE DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, JAQULINE BARTON OF HOUSTON, TEXAS. ONE DAUGHTER, OPAL AND HUSBAND BOB JOHNSTON OF CADET, MISSOURI. THREE BROTHERS, SILAS BARTON OF EMINENCE, MISSOURI, LUVERN AND WIFE FRANCES BARTON OF GLENCO, MISSOURI, DONNIE AND WIFE DORTHY BARTON OF POTOSI, MISSOURI. THREE SISTERS, EDITH CROCKER OF BISMARK, MISSOURI, ODESSIA AND HUSBAND EUGENE MYERS OF OATS, MISSOURI, LETHA AND HUSBAND NORMAN BLACK OF BARNHARDT, MISSOURI. FOUR HALF SISTERS, ROZELLA AND HUSBAND RELDON OF ST. ANN, MISSOURI, DOSHIA AND HUSBAND JOE MINER OF BOSS, MISSOURI, DOROTHY ELLIOTT OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, DORETTA AND HUSBAND CARL LANCASTER OF O'FALLON, MISSOURI. FOURTEEN GRANDCHILDREN, TWENTY ONE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT, GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. IN ADDITION TO HIS PARENTS AND WIFE, ELIJA IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY FOUR BROTHERS, LEBERT, HENRY, SYLVESTER AND LONNIE BARTON. TWO SISTERS, MARTHA SMITH AND DAISY BARTON. TWO GRAND CHILDREN, TEENA "SPEEDY" HAHN AND MARY ANN JOHNSTON
ANYONE WHO KNEW ELIJA, KNEW HE WAS IN TOUCH WITH MOTHER NATURE. HE ENJOYED ALL OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES, HUNTING AND FISHING WERE HIS FAVORITE. HE ALSO LOVED GARDENING, GETTING HIS HANDS IN THE EARTH. ELIJA WILL BE SADLY MISSED AND LOVINGLY REMEMBERED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.
VISITATION WAS HELD ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1999, FROM 2:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. AT MOORE FUNERAL HOME IN POTOSI.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1999 AT POTOSI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WITH REVEREND ROBERT BULLOCK OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN THE ST. JOACHIM CATHOLIC CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MOORE FUNERAL HOME, POTOSI.
SERVING AS PALLBEARERS WERE, ROBERT JOHNSTON, DONNIE JOHNSTON, ROGER JOHNSTON, KENNY WAYNE BARTON, DENNY BOYER AND DANNY SCHIMMEL.
