Daniel John Battreal
Daniel John Battreal of Caledonia, Missouri was born on Saturday, December 9, 1922 in Cadet, Missouri a son of the late, Alice (Boyer) Battreal and Lewis Battreal. Dan departed this life on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-five years, two months and twenty-six days.
Dan is survived by one daughter, Donna White of Cocoa Beach, Florida; two sons, Daniel Battreal and wife, Deborah of Texas, Dennis Battreal and wife, Diane of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Juanita Grace of Maine, Catherine Lowe of Cadet, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jacquline, Kattie, Denny, Tammy and Krista, eight great grandchildren, longtime companion, Loretta Neier of Caledonia, Missouri, also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by two sisters, Hannah Ferrell and Lena Ferrell, four brothers, Clarence “Rosco” Battreal, Don Battreal, Ralph Battreal and Joseph Battreal.
Dan served in the United States Army enlisting on February 10, 1943 in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri during WWII. While serving he received the Combat Infantry Badge, 3 Overseas Bars, Purple Heart, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and 1 Bronze Service Star, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon and 2 Bronze Service Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Dan was honorably discharged on September 17, 1945.
Dan enjoyed square dancing, playing card games, playing the games chance, working in his garden and cutting wood. He loved serving as an adopted Grandpa to Loretta’s family, and spending time visiting with family and friends. Dan will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation was held Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Vigil Prayer Service was conducted by Father George Galovich at 5:30 PM Tuesday, March 11, 2008.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Father George Galovich officiating.
Honoring Dan by serving as Pallbearers were: Denny Battreal, Ralph Battreal, Tim Battreal, Steve Neier, Rob Neier and Andrew Neier.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
