Orpha Geraldine Battreal

Orpha Battreal asleep with Jesus; after a long illness on August 13, 2008 at Potosi Manor, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-seven years, four months and twenty days. Orpha was born on March 24, 1921 in Old Mines, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late, John Ruby and Mary Boyer.

Orpha was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph S. Battreal on May 23, 1943 in Old Mines, Missouri and this union was blessed with fourteen children.

Orpha is survived by all fourteen children: ten daughters, Pat Boyer and husband, Kenneth of Potosi, Carolyn Battreal of Farmington, Catherine Becker and husband, Gerald of Potosi, Judy East and husband, Aaron “Buckshot” of Potosi, Diane Mull and husband, Randy of Potosi, Geraldine Parmley and husband, Dave of Cadet, Brenda Webb and husband, Willie of Sullivan, Linda Sitzes and Christopher Greifzu of Potosi, Glenda Christ of Troy and Tammy Thomas and husband, Tom of Farmington, four sons, William “Willie” Battreal and Christina Schmitz of Cadet, Larry Battreal of Farmington, Jimmy Battreal of Afton and Donnie Battreal and wife, Sandy of Mineral Point, along with twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Orpha was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S. Battreal who passed away, May 9, 1986, one sister, Blanche McGraw, one brother, Howard Ruby, one grandson, Ricky Lynn Tedder and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Battreal.

Orpha enjoyed observing the deer and other wildlife that would visit her farm in Old Mines. She was noted for her flower gardens and her special Sunday dinners with her children. In her later years she would watch the cardinals and hummingbirds that would visit her birdfeeders. She liked to play bingo, work crossword puzzles and attend Sunday Mass at St. Joachim. But what she loved was the company and companionship of her family, friends and dog, BoBo.

Visitation was held Friday, August 15, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper, Monsignor James Hanson and Reverend Joe Welschmeyer officiating.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were: Nice Province, Ryan Boyer, Angie Mull, Nathan Mull, Tim Battreal, Donnie Battreal, Jr., Sherry Battreal, Clint Minx, Kyle Tedder, Andy Kiepe, Cole Richards and Christopher Battreal.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
