Wilma June Benson of Potosi, Missouri was born on Tuesday, February 14, 1939 in Potosi, Missouri to the late, Goldie V. (Neff) Ayers-Dean and Clifford Ayers, Jr. and departed this life on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-years two months and nineteen days.
Wilma was united in marriage to Joseph M. “Bud” Benson on February 10, 1962 in Potosi.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Joseph “Bud” Benson of Potosi, Missouri; two daughters, Bonnie June Essmyer of Mineral Point, Missouri, Kimberly Ann Jaycox and husband, Woodrow of Potosi, Missouri; one son, Joseph M. Benson, Jr. and wife, Anita Kay of Potosi, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Victoria Cox of San Bernardino, California; one stepson, Jerry G. Benson and wife, Kathy of San Bernardino, California; six grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one step great grandchild; three sisters, Susie Ann Wilkinson and husband, John of Leesburg, Missouri, Sally J. Skiles and husband, Ron of Potosi, Missouri, Barbara Schoppenhorst and husband, Ed of Union, Missouri; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by one grandchild, Rebecca Cain, one half sister, Hester Ayers, three brothers, Charles W. Ayers, Carl W. Ayers and Claude W. Ayers.
Wilma enjoyed making beautiful flower arrangements, sewing and making new jewelry from old heirlooms. She also enjoyed collecting angels and then painting them. Talking with her family members and many friends in person or on the phone was always the highlight of her day. Wilma also loved watching “Days of Our Lives.” Wilma loved her family, friends who will deeply miss her.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday, May 6, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri with Pastor Jim Wade officiating. Musical selections were: “I Can Only Imagine”, “I Will Remember You” and “I Will Find You Again”. Serving as pallbearers were: Joe Benson, Buddy Benson, Woody Jaycox, James Parker, Jeff Hedrick, Ronnie Skiles, Jr., Jerome Boyet and Ed Schoppenhorst.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Redbud Memorial Gardens, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
