Betty Mathews

  Betty Mathews, a beloved member of the Potosi community, passed away on June 29 2024. She was born on March 4, 1949, in Potosi, Missouri, a daughter to the late Emmit McGuire and Rebecca (Lamarque) McGuire. 

  On February 25, 1967, Betty was united in marriage to the late Floyd Mathews and they lovingly shared 13 years of love, and memories. Floyd passed away January 15, 1980.

  Betty can be best described as loving, kind, and caring, always prioritized others before herself. She found joy in simple pleasures like listening to music, cooking, and spending time with close family. Furthermore, her commitment to St. James Catholic Church in Potosi shone through as she actively participated in various church functions. Betty dedicated many years of her life working as janitor for the Potosi R-3 School district, where she was cherished by both students and staff members for her hard work and kind nature. Among Betty's proudest accomplishments were her roles as a loving mother and grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew her.

  In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death her sisters, Marie Walton and Virginia McGuire and brother, Charles Tammons.

  She is survived by her daughters: Rebecca "Becky" Ann Mathews, Tamara Mathews, Taya Mathews, Christie Hollinger- Simpson; two sisters: Doris Clay (husband Michael) of San Antonio, TX, Leona Douthit of Potosi; one brother: John McGuire of Potosi; grandchildren Kaylnn Mathews, Olivia Mathews. Dylan McLaughin; great-grandchildren Myia Bryant and Antonio Bridges Jr.

  Betty will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace knowing she touched the hearts of many with her warmth and compassion.
