Ethel Marie Boyer of Potosi, Missouri was born on Friday, July 11, 1919 in Mineral Point, Missouri a daughter of the late, Sarah Ann (Semar) Politte and Willis Stephen Politte. Ethel departed this life on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Delmar Gardens Nursing Home, Chesterfield, Missouri having reached the age of ninety-two years, one month and nine days.
Ethel was united in marriage to Roy John Boyer on July 25, 1939 at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri.
Ethel is survived by four daughters, Donna Sparks and husband, Douglass of Arnold, Missouri, Joyce Thomas of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Charlotte Bone and husband, Gary of Centralia, Illinois, Mary Jo Blair and husband, David of Potosi, Missouri; three sons, Vincent S. Boyer and wife, Carroll of St. Louis, Missouri, Lynn Boyer of Old Mines, Missouri, Gary Boyer and wife, Kathleen of Old Mines, Missouri; one brother, Daley Politte of St. Louis, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Cecelia Politte of St. Louis, Missouri; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Roy John Boyer, one son, Phillip Boyer, six brothers, Lester Politte, Walter Politte, Bernard Politte, Marvin Politte, Louis Politte, Arthur Politte, seven sisters, Sister Rosemary Politte, Ruth Pinson, Myrtle Higgins, Blanche Roderique, Lucille Pratt, Ann Politte, Mary Politte, two grandchildren, Christopher Lynn Boyer and Jason Patrick Blair.
Ethel was a longtime member of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri where she was the organist and choir director for thirty years and a current member of the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri. She loved attending Mass and was always willing to pray for anyone needing assistance and praying the Rosary. Ethel was co-owner of the Family General Store with her husband, Roy. Ethel also worked at the Washington County Sheriff’s office as a secretary and served as Deputy Sheriff in 1966. She also worked at the Washington County Memorial Hospital as a dietician and at the Cadet Post Office for a short period. Ethel loved volunteering for the Georgian Gardens Nursing Center where she was highly recognized while serving as their long-term care ombudsman for the residents. She was recognized several times by the Governor of Missouri because of her association with the Sayers Senior Center. She was also involved with helping the St. Joachim School pupils, fundraising for them whenever asked. Through her long and blessed life, many people were happy to be her friend, always trying to emulate her goodness, the love she shared with her fellow mankind and her true Christian devotion. Most of all Ethel loved her family and the time they spent together, always looking forward to family gatherings.
Visitation was held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Vigil Prayer Service at 5:00 PM with Reverend Joe Welschmeyer officiating and visitation also Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper officiating and assisted by Deacon Ed Boyer. Serving as pallbearers were: Doug Mercille, Kevin Mercille, Rob Mercille, Patrick Bone, Keith Stymiest, Scott Blair, Adam Blair and Jeff Politte.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
