Howard L. Boyer of DeSloge, Missouri was born on Monday, March 11, 1918 in Old Mines, Missouri a son of the late, Elzie (Mercille) Boyer and Patrick J. Boyer. Howard departed this life on Saturday, January 5, 2008 having reached the age of eighty-nine years, nine months and twenty-five days.

Howard was united in marriage to Evelyn Pratt on July 22, 1944 at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Boyer of Desloge, Missouri; one daughter, Judy Booker and husband, Dennis of Potosi, Missouri; two sons, Steven D. Boyer and wife, Peggy of Columbia, Tennessee, Mark G. Boyer and wife, Lisa of Terre Du Lac, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Carrie, Sherrie, Michelle, James, Jr., Brent, Brad, Greg, Christina, Zachary, Rebecca, Kimberly and Brianna; one step grandson, Little Dennis Booker; twenty-one great grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, T.J., Ashley, Lindsey, Amy, Derrick, Amanda, Madison, Megan, Ava, Devin, Ethan, Colby, Ethan, Koty, Dallas, Kayman, Brooks, Gage and Kole; one great great grandchild, Mason. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by two sons, Howard L. Boyer, Jr., Ronald J. Boyer, five sisters, Frozine Sansoucie, Mary Boyer, Maggie Courtway, Mae Battreal, Clara Robart, five brothers, Joseph Boyer, William “Bill” Boyer, Michael Boyer, Clyde Boyer and Clarence Boyer.

Howard served his country by enlisting into the United States Army on November 14, 1942 serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1944 and received many medals for his services.

Howard was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri and also VFW Post #6996, Potosi, Missouri. Howard worked in the tiff mills in the area most of his life and retired from Dresser Minerals where he worked in the lab. Howard enjoyed square dancing with his wife, Evelyn and attending the senior citizens dances around the area for many years, belonging to a square dancing club. Howard loved to plant gardens and began to plant rose gardens in his later years. He also loved to go fishing and hunting when he was a younger man.

Howard enjoyed visiting with everyone and he never knew a stranger. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the company of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially his grandson, Greg, who lived with them in later years. He had a great love for the young ones in the family, who always brought a fast smile to his face. Howard will be missed by a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation was held Monday, January 7, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri. A Prayer Service was held Monday, January 07, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel led by Father George Galovich.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church with Father George Galovich officiating. Honoring Howard by serving as pallbearers were: James D. Robart, Jr., Brent Boyer, Brad Boyer, Gregory Boyer, T.J. West and Ryan West.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri. The Potosi VFW Post 6996 and the Missouri Funeral Honors Team gave military Funeral Honors for Howard’s faithful and unselfish service to this great Country.

Following all services the family and friends gathered at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Old Mines for fellowship and a luncheon provided by the Knights of Columbus, Old Mines, Missouri.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
