Mildred Brinley

Mildred Pauline Brinley of Potosi, Missouri was born on Sunday, March 19, 1922 in DeSoto, Missouri a daughter of the late, Nellie (Maness) Gowan and Benjamin Gowan. Mildred departed this life on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-five years, seven months and twenty-eight days.

Mildred was united in marriage to Elbert Brinley on May 23, 1942 in St. Clair, Missouri.

Mildred is survived by one daughter, Denise Gau and husband, Bill of Irondale, Missouri; one son, John Eric Brinley and wife, Sue of Friendswood, Texas; one sister, Rebecca Fischer of DeSoto, Missouri; two brothers, Ben Gowan, Jr. and wife, Betty of DeSoto, Missouri, Hugh Gowan and wife, Ruth of Crescent City, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Bert Brinley and wife, Doris of Belgrade, Missouri, Bill Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jacob, Neil, Alan, Tim and Adam. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elbert Brinley in 1990.

Mildred worked for Hamilton Shoe Factory of DeSoto, Missouri for many years. She enjoyed doing needlepoint work and quilting. Many will remember Mildred’s expertise of photographing wildflowers and conducting seminars about them. She enjoyed domestic travel, especially throughout the Great American West. Mildred loved spending time with her family and extended family. She was always such a lady and was very appreciative of her husband’s family for accepting her and bringing a new life to her.

Visitation was held Friday, November 16, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, November 17, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Service was held Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 11:30 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Compton and Reverend John Lands officiating.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery, Caledonia, Missouri.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9374 Olive Blvd. Ste. 101, St. Louis, MO. 63132-3253.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, Potosi, Missouri.
