Osborn James Brown

Osborn J. Brown of Potosi, Missouri was born on Wednesday, May 2, 1917 in Richwoods, Missouri a son of the late, Frances Cecilia (Scallerando) Brown and John Riley Brown. Osborn departed this life on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Georgian Gardens Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of ninety years, one month and twenty-eight days.

Osborn was united in marriage to Florence Emily on March 23, 1940 in Potosi, Missouri.

Osborn in survived by one daughter, Donna Raftis and husband Jim of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Rita Fincher of Mineral Point, Missouri; one brother, Jerry Brown of Mineral Point, Missouri; two grandchildren, Deanine Gilbertson and husband Dave of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dianna Geers and husband Mike of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Geers, Max Geers, Mitch Geers and A.J. Geers all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and good friends, Reuben and Susan Lawson of Potosi, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to Osborn’s parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lela Dudak and Cecilia Minor, three brothers, John Brown, Daniel Brown and Julius Brown, and one great-granddaughter, Katrina Richards.

Osborn loved staying busy and working with his part-time sewer business, that eventually became a full-time business, often working with his good friend, Reuben Lawson. He was retired from Y.M.C.A. of the Ozarks after many years of dedicated service. Working outdoors, gardening and canning his vegetables always brought Osborn great joy. He loved the many gift of Mother Nature.

Osborn appreciated and loved the care staff at Georgian Gardens Nursing Center and always looked forward to the music sessions presented by various groups and artists. During his spare time he enjoyed listening to country music and also enjoyed watching and listening to professional wrestling on television.

Osborn’s greatest love was his family and always looked forward to their visits. His entire family was his pride and joy and he received great pleasures from each of them. He loved his life and was proud to leave behind and loving family and his many friends who will miss his charm, wit and wisdom. He was a joy to know and there will be a definite void in all whom enjoyed the pleasure of his friendship. Osborn was a remarkable person, not only for his longevity, but also for the intensity and clarity of focus with which he lived his life.

Visitation was held Monday, July 2, 2007 from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Service was held Monday, July 2, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Melvin Reed officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Milburn Fincher, Louis Minor, Doyle Brown, Dan Brown, Paul Brown and John Zettler.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Red Bud Memorial Gardens, Potosi, Missouri.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
