George “Ray” Carter

George Rayfield Carter of St. Louis, Missouri was born on Saturday, April 1, 1939 in Potosi, Missouri a son of the late, Mary Helen (Villmer) Carter and George Lemuel Carter. Ray departed this life on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the St. Anthony’s Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of sixty-eight years, seven months and nineteen days.

Ray was united in marriage to Judy Louise Bourisaw on December 30, 1961 in Old Mines, Missouri and this union was blessed with three children.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Judy Carter of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters, Michelle Ford and husband, Sidney of O’Fallon, Missouri, Kimberly Carter, St. Louis, Missouri; one son, Terry Carter and wife, Maggie of Arnold, Missouri; one brother, John Carter and wife, Beverly of Camdenton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Danielle Ford, Shannon Ford and Joseph Carter; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Ray was a graduate of the Potosi High School, Potosi, Missouri where he played with the first football team at the high school. He served in the National Guard and was a past member of the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218. Ray was the owner of Carter Brothers Oil Company and Co-Owner of J and R Sales, Potosi, Missouri. He attended the Mary Mother of the Church, St. Louis, Missouri. Ray loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed working and visiting with his many friends. Ray also enjoyed traveling all over the United States and photography. He was a collector of Lionel Trains since his childhood. Ray had a great love for flying and was a pilot for many years. He and his father owned a Cessna plane and enjoyed the many hours in the air. Ray loved his family and the time he spent with them. His sense of humor brought countless memories for all to enjoy. His love, for his family and his fellow man and his generous spirit, will live on in all who have been touched by his kindness, especially the youth and anyone with special needs.

Visitation was held Friday, November 23, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, November 24, 2007 from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Father George Galovich officiating.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Darrell Pratt, Rich Carter, Mike Carter, Brian Carter, David Johnson and Mike O’Tool.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
