Esther Courtaway

November 10, 1929 — June 6, 2011

Esther Mae Courtaway was born on Sunday, November 10, 1929 in Fertile, Missouri a daughter of the late, Nealey (Missey) Valley and Eugene Valley. Esther departed this life on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-one years, six months and twenty-seven days.

Esther was united in marriage to Edwin E. Courtaway on December 18, 1946 in Washington DC.

Esther is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Courtaway of Cadet, Missouri; two sons, Kenneth E. Courtaway and wife, Georgia of Cedar Hill, Missouri, Dennis “Rocky” Courtaway of Cadet, Missouri; five sisters, Velma Boyer and husband, Bill of Farmington, Missouri, Marcella Van DeVen of Sullivan, Missouri, Deloris Dick of Mayfield, Kentucky, Viola Crannick and husband, Norman of Sullivan, Missouri, Trudy Hutchison and husband, Bill of Hillsboro, Missouri; one brother, Rick Valle and wife, Carol of Cadet, Missouri; seven grandchildren; several grandchildren; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Courtaway, one daughter, Helen E. Leach, two sisters, Nick Turner and Sharon Harper.

Esther was a parishioner of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri. She loved her family and her Catholic Faith. Esther enjoyed going to yard sales, fishing and quilting. She also enjoyed building and decorating dollhouses, working in her yard and keeping their home clean. Esther was very thankful for learning wonderful work ethics from her parents. She will be very deeply missed by the many lives she has touched.

Visitation was held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Roger Gann, Steve Valle, Rick Valle, Bill Van DeVen, Matthew Courtaway, Gene Boyer and Kenny Courtaway.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
