Doris Jane Courtouise of Potosi, Missouri was born on Tuesday, June 5, 1934 in East St. Louis, Illinois a daughter of the late, Gertrude (Dusenbery) Gazelle and Adrian Gazelle. Doris departed this life on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Center, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-eight years, four months and twelve days.
Doris is survived by three sons, Irvin Smith and wife, Sherry of East Peoria, Illinois, Virgil Smith and wife, Rhonda of Richwoods, Missouri, Chuck Courtouise and wife, Crystal of Belgrade, Missouri; five daughters, Paula Casper of Washington, Illinois, Doris Jane Cardwell and husband, Delbert of Richwoods, Missouri, Tina Knott of Washington, Illinois, Janet Cawley and husband, Doyle of East Peoria, Illinois, Serena Hamilton and husband, Lee of El Paso, Illinois; three sisters, Billie Pamson and husband, Leonard of Washburn, Illinois, Loretta Lawson of Washington, Illinois, Louetta Gazelle of Washington, Illinois; one brother, Merle Gazelle and wife, Marsha of Washington, Illinois; sister-in-law, Connie Gazelle of Grove Springs, Missouri; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Zeddour Courtouise, one son, Thomas Smith, one sister, Linda Greene, four brothers, Adrian Gazelle, John Gazelle, William Gazelle, Thomas Gazelle, two grandsons, Jeff Cardwell and Brian Knott.
Doris enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, working in her garden and watching the humming birds. She was a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Richwoods, Missouri. Doris also enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She was a very kind generous woman who will be very deeply missed by the many lives she has touched.
Visitation was held Friday, October 19, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Richwoods, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were: Milo Mordhorst, Nathan Mordhorst, Matthew Mordhorst, A.J. Boyer, Josh Hamilton, Zachary Littrell and Cody Betts.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
