Gene Cross
Gene Cross of Irondale, Missouri was born on March 21, 1933 in Elvins, Missouri a son of the late Ella Rachel (Weiss) Cross and Hobart Lewis Cross. Gene departed this life on Monday, March 12, 2007 at his residence having reached the age of seventy-three years, eleven months and nineteen days.
Gene was united in marriage to Grace Mayfield on October 25, 1952 in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Gene is survived by one daughter, Tammy Cross and fiancé Scott Berowski of Irondale, Missouri; three sons, William “Skip” Cross and wife Cheryl of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Roger Cross and wife Denise of Linn, Missouri, Tim Cross and fiancé Tammy Crawford of Potosi, Missouri; three sisters, Betty Cary and husband George of Dittmer, Missouri, Alene Lee of Dittmer, Missouri, Bonnie Murray of House Springs, Missouri; four brothers, Jim Cross and wife Alita of DeSoto, Missouri, Earl Cross of Mississippi, Leroy Cross and wife Sharon of Cedar Hill, Missouri, Jerry Cross of St. Louis, Missouri; special friend, Virginia Bell of Irondale, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Tonya, Michael Heath, Beau, Kyle, Neal, Connor, Lexi, Taylor, Jake and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Brent also surviving are many nieces, nephew, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Cross on August 14, 1999, son, Larry Mayfield and one grandson, Shane Mayfield.
Gene worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for thirty-eight years and was always telling stories of his times there. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and hunting with his favorite gun Bessie. Gene loved baseball and never missed a St. Louis Cardinals game on television. Gene attended the Big River Non-denominational Church, Irondale, Missouri and he enjoyed reading his Bible. One of the highlights of Gene’s life was when he was recently Baptized on October 15, 2006 at Shepherd’s Chapel in Gravette, Arkansas.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Pastor David Parmley officiating.
Burial took place in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Goodland, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
