Dorothy Ethel DeGonia
Dorothy Ethel DeGonia of Cadet, Missouri was born on December 17, 1929 in Cadet, Missouri a daughter of the late, Frances (King) Boyer and Theodore “Ted” Boyer. Dorothy departed this life on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-eight years, eleven months and twenty-nine days.
Dorothy was united in marriage to the James A. “Sutt” DeGonia on June 5, 1948 and this union was blessed with two children.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Edward DeGonia of Cadet, Missouri; one grandson who was raised as their son, Ralph DeGonia and wife, Jill of Cadet, Missouri; one great granddaughter, Bethany Spitzmiller of Cadet, Missouri; three sisters, Deloris Moore of Prince Frederick, Maryland, Avis Bourisaw and husband, Tony of Greenville, South Carolina, Patricia Boyer and husband, Charlie of St. Peters, Missouri; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Sutt” DeGonia, one daughter, Kathleen Virginia DeGonia, three sisters, Bernice Battreal, Alma Drozkowski, Leona Aubuchon and one brother, Adrian Boyer.
Dorothy was a lifetime member of the St. Joseph and St. Joachim Catholic Churches. Dorothy did many things to help around the community, including volunteering at St. Joachim School Library and would assist at St. Joseph and St. Joachim Churches in many ways. She owned the Shamrock Restaurant, worked at the Cadet store for many years, but she mostly enjoyed raising and selling dogs and loved them tremendously. Dorothy enjoyed watching cooking shows on television, flower gardening, crocheting, sewing and making clothes for many children. She also enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and always looked forward to the DeGonia family reunions. Dorothy and her late husband, James were well known for their dancing skills. Dorothy was a kind and loving woman who will be very deeply missed by the many lives she has touched.
Visitation was held Friday, November 19, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, November 20, 2008 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, November 20, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiff, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper officiating and music was provided by Joyce Politte.
Final Prayers and Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Tiff, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
