Howard DeGonia of Cadet, Missouri was born on Sunday, October 25, 1908 in Cadet, Missouri a son of the late, Mary Zeta (Roderique) DeGonia and William Juele DeGonia. Howard departed this life on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the St. Joe Manor, Bonne Terre, Missouri having reached the age of 102 years, four months and fifteen days.
Howard was united in marriage to Esther I. Cook on May 2, 1933.
Howard is survived by one daughter, Joanne Hahn and husband, Bob of Cadet, Missouri; one son, Howard Kenny DeGonia and wife, Ronda of Cadet, Missouri; two brothers, Ira Francis DeGonia of Hillsboro, Missouri, James DeGonia and wife, Mildred of Ironton, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Mary Jo, Joseph, Phillip, Stephen, Brenda, Christopher, Karyn, Michelle, Debbie, Krystal, Kendra, Stephanie; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are other relatives and special friends including, the Mike Nickelson Family. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Esther DeGonia, three daughters, Mary Lenora Pashia, Sister Yvonne DeGonia, Carol Mae Du, five sisters, Bernice Boyer, Virgie Pinson, Myrtle Pinson, Oneida DeGonia, Annie DeGonia, six brothers, Ervin DeGonia, Russell DeGonia, Oscar DeGonia, Vincent DeGonia, Robert DeGonia and Bernard DeGonia.
Howard was a parishioner of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri. He enjoyed grain farming, gardening and was well known around the state as a cattle farmer. Howard loved visiting with his family and friends, talking, playing cards and always playing practical jokes. He enjoyed life everyday to the fullest. Howard worked as a laborer and watchman at the Buckman Laboratory from 1963-1982. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation was held Monday, March 14, 2011 from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, March 15, 2011from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri. Honoring Howard by serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Phil Pashia, Christopher Hahn and nephews, David DeGonia, Rick DeGonia, Jeff DeGonia, Gary “Buck” DeGonia, Tom DeGonia and Edward Pinson.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri.
Memorials may be directed in memory of Howard to the St. Joachim Catholic Church or School.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
