Stella Josephine Degonia
Stella Josephine Degonia of Bonne Terre, Missouri was born on Wednesday, July 14, 1915 in Old Mines, Missouri a daughter of the late, Louis Honor and Sara Anastasia (Mercille) Boyer. She departed this life on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the St. Joe Manor, Bonne Terre, Missouri having reached the age of ninety-two years, one month and twenty-six days.
Stella was united in marriage to John B. Degonia on June 5, 1937 in Potosi, Missouri.
Stella is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Degonia of St. Louis, Missouri, Patty J. Degonia of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons, John B. Degonia, Jr. and wife, Sharon of Covington, Georgia, Thomas M. Degonia and wife, Sue of Mineral Point, Missouri; two brothers, Joseph W. Boyer and wife, Margaret of Kimmswick, Missouri, Simon Boyer of House Springs, Missouri; four grandchildren, Thomas M. Degonia II and wife, Betsy, John Louis Degonia and wife, Ilsa, John Paul Degonia and wife, Kim, Darcy Reneé Bowen and husband, Lloyd; ten great grandchildren; special niece, Suzanne (Boyer) Short, also surviving are many other relatives and friends.
Stella was a long time faithful member of St. James Catholic Church, was a past member of The Sodality of Our Lady of Perpetual Help of St. James Catholic Church and volunteered at the St. James Catholic School helping with the P.T.O. Stella also assisted in the formation of St. Vincent De Paul Society. She was an avid reader and was always ready to read any type of magazine or books. Stella loved animals and helping rescue strays. Stella lived most of her adult life in Mineral Point. While living there, she cooked and sent large quantities of food to hungry families, cared for many who were ill or disabled. She was always ready to volunteer her services whenever they were needed. Stella was a very kind hearted woman who will be very lovingly missed by the many lives she has touched.
Visitation was held Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday, September 12, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Father George Galovich officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Thomas M. Degonia II, John Louis Degonia, John Paul Degonia, Tim Short, Leroy Wagner, Bill DeClue, Fred Morris and Andy Coffman.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
