Richard Delane Dickey of Potosi, Missouri was Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the St. Anthony’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving and caring family. Richard was born on Saturday, January 2, 1943 in Potosi, Missouri. A son of the late Elnora Eileen (Elsey) Dickey Olsen and Lacy Merlin Dickey. Richard was Sixty-eight years, eight months and twenty-one days of age.
Richard was united in marriage to Catherine (Thebeau) Politte on June 10, 1983 in Farmington, Missouri.
Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife Catherine Dickey of Potosi, three sons, Kurt Dickey and wife Patty of Potosi, Kent Dickey and wife Kim of Potosi, Tim Politte of St. Charles, Illinois; two daughters, Rhonda Politte and husband Jack of Potosi, Marsha Jones and husband Todd of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Faye Hamilton of St. Louis, Missouri, Shirley DeClue of Creve Coeur, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Mandy, Melissa, Tera, Kyle, Ryan, Jared, Jordan, Kristi, Hona, Zac, Sarah and Andrew; five great grandchildren, Audrey, Kaiden, Grace, Evan and Reese; sister-in-law Alice Dickey of Bella Vista, Arkansas and by many other dear and special friends and co-workers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert “Bob” Dickey.
Richard was a member of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri. Richard had a great love for his Savior and his Church Parish.
Richard enjoyed many gifts of Mother Nature; he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the many hours spent in his bass boat and camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing Euchre whenever possible. Richard loved spending time in his garage and always had an open door for anyone needing work done or just a place to be. He enjoyed stock cars and was very proud of his “Shirley Shaker” sand drag car. He always seemed to have a car project going, room for anyone to bring one in or a dune buggy to tinker with.
Richard was a Life member of the Potosi Elks Lodge #2218, a member of the Washington County Knights of Columbus and of IBEW Local #1439.
Richards working career took him many places and to many people, he worked for Meramec Mining Company, Couples Aluminum, Iron Mountain Forge, Biri Automotive, Purcell Tire Company, Pea Ridge Iron Ore Company and the City of Potosi. Richard was well known for his welding ability, automotive knowledge and his love to cut grass.
Richard was a kind and loving man, with a caring and loving heart. He always had an open ear, shoulders to lean on and a word of wisdom.
Memorial Visitation was held Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Vigil Prayer Service at 6:00 PM lead by Vicki Thurmond and a Potosi Elks Lodge Memorial Service at 6:30 PM. Visitation was also held Monday, September 26, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Memorial Mass was held Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper officiating.
