Bessie Louise Eye of Potosi, Missouri was born Wednesday, April 26, 1916 in Esther, Missouri a daughter of the late Clara (Williams) Streckfuss and Robert Streckfuss. Bessie was received by God’s Angels Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at her daughters home surrounded by her dear and loving family. Bessie was Eighty-eight Years, Seven Months and Eleven Days of age.
Bessie was united in marriage to Lilburn Benjamin Eye March 11, 1935 in Potosi, Missouri and they were blessed to have five daughters and four sons born to the union. Lilburn preceded Bessie in death on March 26, 1976.
Bessie is survived by five daughters, Clarice Allen and husband Ed of Potosi, Missouri, Janet Franklin and husband Dale of Potosi, Missouri, Judy Carlyon and husband Harry of Potosi, Missouri, Sharon Fritz and husband Royce of Potosi, Missouri, Mary Ellen Lounsbery and husband Dean of Branson, Missouri; four sons, Paul Eye and wife Judy May of Potosi, Missouri, Gervis Eye and wife Judy of Potosi, Missouri, Bill Eye and wife Mary Ann of Copperas Cove, Texas, Buddy Eye and wife Dana of Potosi, Missouri; Twenty-three grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren’ four great great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Schwiess and husband Les of St. Charles, Missouri and by many other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Bessie was also preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Sarah Prenger; five sisters, Viola Streckfuss, Letha Walsh, Romonia Justin, Geneva Eye and Shirley Thebeau; six brothers, Bob Streckfuss, Ray Streckfuss, Frank Streckfuss, Joe Streckfuss, Adolph Streckfuss and Ivan Streckfuss; one daughter-in-law Bonnie Eye.
Bessie had accepted Christ as her savior and was an avid and dedicated member to the First Baptist Church, Potosi, Missouri where she was a Sunday School Teacher.
Bessie had a great love for her family and friends. One of her greatest activities was being with each of them and sharing memories with them. At age Eighty, Bessie took this love and care for the past to a new level and wrote her memoirs in book form. Bessie was always able to recall the smallest and most minute details when talking about many subjects and family matters. Bessie was an avid artist who enjoyed producing landscape pictures, horses and many different buildings including a drawing of the Grassy Hollow Church.
Bessie was a great home maker and loved cooking wonderful meals for the large family gatherings. She enjoyed working in the garden, crocheting and sewing.
Each and everyone of her family members held a very dear and special place in her heart. She had three nicknames lovingly given her by grandchildren because of songs that she sang to them, they were IE-IE, Hoodie and Dodly.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 9, 2004 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, December 10, 2004 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
Funeral Service was held Friday, December 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Jeff Richards officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial was at the White Oak Grove Cemetery, Shirley, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Darrell Eye, Bryan Carlyon, Ben Carlyon, Bret Sanders, Joshua Sanders, Terry Joe Eye, Eric Boyer, Brandon Prenger, Dylan Wyrich, Joe Carlyon, Matthew Franklin and Colby Franklin.
Services were entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark St., Potosi, Missouri.
