Opal Beulah Eye
Opal B. Eye of Shirley, Missouri was born Wednesday, April 5, 1916 in Steelville, Missouri a daughter of the late Ella (Harper) Harmon and Roy Harmon. Opal departed this life Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at her home surrounded by the love and care of her dear family. Opal was Eighty-eight years, Five months and Seventeen days of age.
Opal was united in marriage to Floyd David Eye April 24, 1930 and they were blessed to have twelve children born to the union. Floyd preceded his wife in death on Monday, October 11, 1976 at the age of Sixty-four years.
Opal is survived by three daughters, Freda Pickett-Wright of Potosi, Missouri, Delores Lewis of Freeburg, Illinois, Elaine Skaggs and husband Bill of Potosi, Missouri; four sons, Cleo Eye and Shirley J. Of Potosi, Missouri, Boyd Eye and wife Doris J. Of Potosi, Missouri, Stanley Eye and wife Donna M. Of Potosi, Missouri, Ronnie D. Eye and wife Mildred of Labadie, Missouri; one sister, Mildred Easley of DeSoto, Missouri; four brothers, Cliff Harmon and wife Kathleen, Kelly Harmon and wife Betty of Alton, Illinois, Jim Harmon and wife Judy of Arnold, Missouri, LeRoy Harmon and wife Brenda of Indiana; Eighteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Edith Harmon of DeSoto, Missouri; very special Nephew, Bill Doss of Potosi, Missouri and by many other relatives and friends. In addition to parents and husband, Opal was also preceded in death by three daughters, Norma Lee Eye, Betty Lee Eye and Geraldine Crocker; two sons, Raymond Eye and Austin Eye; two sisters, Virginia Wood and Lea Harmon; three brothers, Virgil Harmon, Clyde Harmon and Leo Harmon; one grandson, Terry Lynn Hollingsworth.
Opal had accepted Christ as her savior and was a devoted member of the white Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Potosi, Missouri.
Opal had a great love for her family and each of them held a very dear place in her heart. Opal always put her family first in her daily life. Opal always looked forward to a family gathering and would always be the life of the party. She was always ready and willing to help her children and was a wonderful mother.
Opal loved to go fishing and enjoyed cleaning and cooking them. She was always ready to go on a hunt with her husband. She enjoyed traveling around going to garage sales.
A kind and loving women who always had others first on her mind. Her memory will live with us because of her love to her children and the values she has left with them and their families.
Visitation was held Thursday, September 23, 2004 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, September 24, 2004 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 24, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Reverend Melvin Reed officiating. Music was provided by Jimmy Gilliam who sang Roses Will Bloom Again and Go Rest High on that Mountain. A special thank you to Mrs. Marie Cain for her translation of the funeral service.
Final Prayers and Burial was at the White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Shirley, Missouri. Honoring the life of Opal serving as Pallbearers were David Hollingsworth, Jarrod Eye, Randy Whitaker, Mike Vance, Jeff McEntire and Billy Fraley.
Services were entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
