John Edward Gaghen, Jr.
John E. Gaghen, Jr. of Potosi, Missouri was born on Tuesday, April 21, 1953 in Alton, Illinois and departed this life on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of fifty-four years, six months and two days.
John was united in marriage to Sheila Faye Gum on August 8, 1992 in Potosi, Missouri by Reverend Jim Slagg.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Gaghen of Potosi, Missouri; one daughter, Emily Rose Gaghen and fiancé, Adam Elsey of Webster Grove, Missouri; four sons, Joshua Thomas Gaghen and wife, Melissa of St. Peters, Missouri, Elijah John Gaghen and wife, Abby of Olathe, Kansas, Matthew Gum Gaghen and wife, Sarah of Potosi, Missouri, Zachary Evan Jacobsen of Potosi, Missouri; mother and father, Barbara Lynette Gaghen and John Edward Gaghen, Sr. of Gadsden, Alabama; two brothers, Thomas A. Gaghen and wife, Debbie of Gadsden, Alabama, Lewis “Michael” Gaghen of Gadsden, Alabama; two grandchildren, Isaac and Isabella; also surviving are his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Bill Gum of Irondale, Missouri; brother-in-law, William “Mal” and wife, Charli Gum of Potosi, Missouri; sister-in-law, Tamara “Tammy” Watson and husband, Richard of Irondale, Missouri; family pets, Missy and Sami, Bootsie, Gamby, Cosmo, Marley, Spidie, Tilley and Rowin; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends and his longtime band members and fans.
John was a dedicated member of the Potosi United Methodist Church and was the music and song technician for many years. He was also a Sunday School Teacher and very active in many aspects of the Church.
John was a founding partner of Tawanee Bottled Water Company, St. Louis, MO and a longtime director of the Public Works Department of Terre du Lac.
John loved music and had many talents for instruments including the guitar, fiddle, mandolin and the harmonica. He was a member of the Misty Mountain Blue Grass Band and the Old Time Ozark Mountain String Band. John was a member of BPOE # 2218 and a current chairman of bingo. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Isaac and Isabella.
John had a great love for life and cherished each and every moment he spent with his family and many friends.
Visitation was held Saturday, October 27, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri and from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Potosi United Methodist Church, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 3:00 PM at the Potosi United Methodist Church, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Compton and Father George Galovich officiating.
Final Prayers and Entombment took place in the New Masonic Mausoleum, Potosi, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were John L. Boyer, Dave Craig, Dr. Joe Huck, Dr. Danny Huck, Ron Piel, Tommy Roy, Dr. Jamie Roy and Jim Harvey
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
