George Galovich Rev.

Reverend George Willis Galovich was born on Monday, February 5, 1945 in Galesburg, Illinois, son of the late Lucy Frances (Peterson) Galovich and Samuel Thomas Galovich. Father George departed this life on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the St. Mary’s Health Care Center, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of sixty-seven years, three months and twenty-days.

Father George is survived by two sisters, Lucy Kathryn Galovich-Cox of Palatine, Illinois; Jean Galovich and Stephen Sum of Riverside, Illinois; two nephews, Nicholas Sum and Gilbert Cox; also surviving are other family and friends.

Father George was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 29, 1971 by John Joseph Cardinal Carberry. Prior to his retirement, Father George served several parishes throughout his dedicated years of service, including Holy Innocents Church, St. Louis, Missouri, St. Ann’s Church of Ferguson, Missouri and was also an instructor at the St. Thomas Aquinas-Mercy High School in St. Louis, Missouri and also taught at St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He finished his long career of serving the Lord at St. James Catholic Church in Potosi, Missouri where he was Pastor from 1989 to 2008. Father George loved visiting with the people and was instrumental in the advancement of the Potosi Ministerial Alliance. After retirement he attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bonne Terre, Missouri. He was an avid Denver Bronco football fan and enjoyed watching hockey, playing golf, traveling and sharing his wonderful computer skills. Father George touched the hearts of many people during his lifetime of service to mankind and will be forever remembered for the joy and laughter he brought to all.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri hosted by Rev. Joseph Welschmeyer, Pastor. The Principal Celebrant of the Mass was Archbishop Robert Carlson, Archbishop of the St. Louis Archdiocese and Concelebrated by Rev. John Schneider, Rev. Galovich’s classmates, Rev. Vernon Gardner and Rev. Joe Simon, Rev. Brian Fischer, Rev. Richard Tillman, Rev. Robert Liss, Monsignor James Hanson, Rev. Ray Oge, Rev. Steve Giljum, Rev. George Bernnan. The Homily was delivered by Rev. John Schneider.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. Father George is the first Priest to be buried in the Priest section of the parish cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Stephen Sum, Nicholas Sum, and Knight of Columbus Council # 5936 Members: Tom DeGonia, Jim Robart, Sr., Bernard Pashia, Randall Mull, Ronald Boyer and Marvin Wright. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard was provided by Cardinal Glennon Assembly #567, Bonne Terre, Missouri.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
