Sam Jim Godat of Irondale, Missouri was born on Tuesday, July 3, 1928 in Webb City, Oklahoma a son of the late, Gladys Sarah (Merritt) Fines and Walter James Godat. Sam departed this life on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Parkland Health Center, Farmington, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-five years, two months and twenty-five days.
Sam is survived by three daughters, Judy King and husband, Nelson of Perryville, Missouri; Kathy Andrew of Irondale, Missouri; Lydia Godat of Irondale, Missouri; three sons, Samuel Jim Godat, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Butte, Montana; Kenny Leroy Godat and wife, Nancy of Irondale, Missouri; Curtis Ray Godat and wife, Linda of Irondale, Missouri; three sisters, Opal LaRue of West Plains, Missouri; Florence Collins of Dallas, Texas; Beth Skinner and husband, Bob of Pomona, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Iretta Godat and Vernie Godat; numerous grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Marie (Venable) Godat, one sister, Jean Bushman and two brothers, John Godat and Walter Edward Godat.
Sam worked as truck driver driving all over the United States and was a longtime member of Local 600 in St. Louis, Missouri. He enjoyed watching all types of sports on television and spending time outdoors fishing and deer hunting. Sam was a member of the Irondale Masonic Lodge #143. He enjoyed spending time with his family, who will all miss him dearly.
Visitation was held Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Irondale, Missouri.
A Graveside Service was held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Mount Zion Cemetery, Pomona, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were: Richard Godat, Patrick Godat, Rob Clampitt, Peter Wayne Godat, Kenneth Leroy Godat II and Michael Winick.
