James Curfman Gwyn
James Gwyn of Festus, Missouri, formerly of Potosi, Missouri was born on Thursday, January 15, 1942 in Denver, Colorado; a son of the late, Jane (Curfman) Gwyn and James W. Gwyn. James departed this life on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Camelot Nursing Center, Farmington, Missouri, having reached the age of sixty-seven years, eight months and three days.
James was united in marriage to Carole A. Wondra on August 7, 1971 in Webster Groves, Missouri.
James is survived by his loving wife, Carole Gwyn of Festus, Missouri; two sons, James W. Gwyn II and wife, Lori of Weatherford, Oklahoma, David T. Gwyn and wife, Jessica of Maryland Heights, Missouri; two grandchildren, Caroline Gwyn and Jacob Gwyn of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one brother, William A. Gwyn and wife, Linda of Kirkwood, Missouri; niece, Megan E. Gwyn; nephew, Christopher C. Gwyn; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Griffith and husband Frank of Granite City, Illinois; Aunt, Hope Curfman; also surviving are cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Jane Gwyn.
James was P.T.A. President of the Potosi Elementary School for many years. He was a past president of the Rotary Club, a member of American College of Healthcare Executives and the Missouri League of Nursing Home Administrators. James was an active Elder at the Potosi Presbyterian Church. James enjoyed furthering his education receiving a M.H.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, Master in Education from the University of Columbia, Missouri and A.B. of Liberal Arts/History from the Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. James loved his family and the time they spent together. He will always be remembered for the love and knowledge he shared.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri and Monday, September 21, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Potosi Presbyterian Church.
A Funeral Service was held Monday, September 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Potosi Presbyterian Church, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Compton officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Redbud Memorial Gardens, Potosi, Missouri. Honoring James by serving as pallbearers were: Brandan Kraft, Wayne Walls, Andy Noah, Frank Griffith and Gary Leftridge.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
