Verna M. Hayes of Richwoods, Missouri was born on Friday, December 28, 1934 in Fertile, Missouri a daughter of the late, Mary Margaret (Missey) Bequette and Timon Bequette. Verna departed this life on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the SSM St. Clare Hospital, Fenton, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-six years, nine months and twenty-one days.
Verna was united in marriage to Francis A. “Frankie” Hayes on September 12, 1953 in DeSoto, Missouri.
Verna is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Francis “Frankie” Hayes of Richwoods, Missouri; one daughter, Esther Renee Malawey and husband, Greg of Potosi, Missouri; five sons, Keith W. Hayes and wife, Shelia of Richwoods, Missouri; David F. Hayes and wife, Marsha of Richwoods, Missouri, Ralph A. Hayes and wife, Joyce of Jackson, Missouri, Jeff Lynn Hayes and wife, Gail of Sullivan, Missouri, Richard A. Hayes of Sullivan, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives including, sister-in-law, Theresa Bequette of Cadet, Missouri; good friends, Luke and Lisa Arnold, Jeff and Billie Villmer, Chester and Irene Wells and other special friends. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Lisa Ann Hayes, three sisters, Lucille Sampson, Gerry Guenther, Sarah Guenther, four brothers, Roy Bequette, Willie Bequette, Dave Bequette, Lenis Bequette and one grandson, Tymon “T.J.” Hayes.
Verna attended the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Richwoods, Missouri. She enjoyed making all types of crafts especially, plastic canvas crafts and jewelry making. Verna was the honorary chairperson of the Frankie Hayes Band Club and enjoyed listening to them play. She also enjoyed caring for her favorite dogs, Ole’ Yeller, Bo-Bo, Bimbo and Snuggles. Verna’s greatest love was her family and the time they shared together.
Visitation was held Friday, October 21, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Richwoods, Missouri with Father Robert Liss officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Keith Hayes, David Hayes, Ralph Hayes, Jeff Hayes, Richard Hayes and Greg Malawey.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri. The St. Stephen Church Family, Richwoods Lions Club and the Community provided a luncheon for the Family and Friends at the St. Stephen Catholic Church Hall following the services.
Memorials are to be directed in memory of Verna to the Richwoods Food Pantry at 11579 State Hwy H, Richwoods, Missouri 63071.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
