Ruth Emmeline Henderson
Ruth Emmeline (Robinson) Henderson of Belgrade, Missouri was born at Caledonia, Missouri, August 1, 1911. She was the Youngest daughter of the late John Richard and Nellie May (Hill) Robinson. Ruth departed this life at the Potosi Manor, Potosi, Missouri at the age of Ninety-two Years, Five Months and eight Days.
Ruth was united in marriage to the late Thomas Linn Henderson on August 10, 1929, in Flint, Michigan. Having celebrated over 50 years of marriage together he preceded her in death on September 9, 1979.
Ruth and Linn made their home and raised their family in Flint and Owosso, Michigan until 1968 when they returned to the Henderson family farm in Belgrade, Missouri. The Henderson Farm has been in the family consecutively for over 157 years and was designated a Missouri Century Farm in 2000. During those years in Michigan, Ruth was very active in the community; her many civic and charitable activities included attaining the rank of Major in the Victory Chest campaigns during World War II, Genesee County Chairwoman of the Community Chest Campaigns for The American Red Cross, and serving in their Special Services Corps, Genesee County Chairwoman for the Girl Scouts, Genesee County Polio Board Member, Owosso Music Chorale, and a member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Delta Theta Tau sorority in Flint, Michigan.
After returning to Missouri, Ruth joined the Cedar Lodge Club, formerly the Washington County Home Economic Club, the Missouri Star Quilters Guild and the Belgrade and Caledonia United Methodist Women’s Guilds.
Ruth started high school in Belgrade, but moved to Michigan and was member of the first graduating class of the then newly constructed Flint Northern High School - Class of 1929. After high school she attended Baker Business College in Flint and later went into the American Red Cross Nurses training program at McClaren Hospital, formerly Women’s Hospital and Herrle Hospital in Flint, Michigan.
Ruth accepted Christ early in her life and was a member of the Thomas Chapel Methodist Church on Jane’s Creek; later in Michigan, a Member of the Court Street United Methodist Church and upon returning to Missouri was an active member of both the Belgrade and Caledonia United Methodist Churches.
Ruth loved spending time with her family and friends and sharing her love of antiquing and finding interesting treasures at house sales and craft bazaars. Ruth spent over 60 years collecting antiques.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters; Nellie Matilda Sullivan, Lena May Sutton, Annie Laurie Pierce and Mildred Elizabeth Cresswell; and by Two Brothers, Warren Richard Robinson and John McClure Robinson, Sr. and one Sister-in-Law, Miss Grace Relfe Henderson.
A kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all that knew her.
She is survived by her only daughter, Nellie Jo Turner and husband Robert of Belgrade, Missouri; Three Sons; Thomas Richard Henderson and wife Sandra of Martinez, California, Linn Bryan Henderson and wife Bea of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Phillip McClure Henderson and wife Ruth of Cucamonga, California; Fourteen Grandchildren, Richard “Rick” Henderson, Michael Turner, Susan (Turner) Tiefenauer, Deena Ann (Henderson) Starlin, Stuart Henderson, Fawn (Henderson) Baerrett, Phillip Henderson, Jr., Dan Henderson, Jeff Henderson, Brian Henderson, Jonathan Henderson, Nathan Henderson, James Henderson and Darlene (Henderson) Arreguin; Twenty-four Great-Grandchildren; One Great-great Grandchild; special great-nephew, John M. Robinson, III, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, January 12, 2004 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, January 13, 2004 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend John Adams and Reverend Linda Nelson officiating. The obituary reading was by Stu Henderson, Musical selections were “In The Garden” and “Just a Little Talk with Jesus” sung by Tom Pierce, Mike Robart, Christopher Robart and John M. Robinson, III. Congregational singing was “Amazing Grace” and “Church in the Wildwood”. Pianist was Selma Akers.
Grave side Services and Burial was in the Sunlight Cemetery, Belgrade, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Stu Henderson, Dan Henderson, Jeff Henderson, Paul Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Mac “John” Robinson, Jr. and Brett Tiefenauer.
Services were entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
