Born the second eldest of nine children of Lewis A. Martin and Pearl (Neely) Martin.
Beloved wife of the late Lewis E. Hornsey for more than sixty-two years, married November 7, 1936 at Cuba, Missouri.
Mother of Edward E. Hornsey and wife, Joyce of Rolla, Missouri, Margaret Williams and husband, Charles of Chesterfield, Missouri, James (JoAnn, deceased) Hornsey of Greenwood, Arkansas, Elaine Henry and husband, Delbert of Wildwood, Missouri, Jeanette Allen and husband, Larry of Leawood, Kansas, and Carmen Wilberg of Dublin, California.
Grandmother of James Harrison, Therese (Steve) Hornung, Philip Hornsey, Neil (Katie) Hornsey, James Martin Hornsey, Stephen (Christine) Hornsey, Brett Henry, and Meredith (Eric) Rakey.
Great Grandmother of Derrick Harrison, Jacqueline Harrison, Jonathan Hornung, Jennifer Hornung, Samantha Hornung, Emily Brown, Cole Hornsey, Spencer Hornsey, Leah Hornsey, Jana Hornsey, Vera Hornsey, Madeline Rakey and Elliana Rakey.
Sister of John Martin, Maxine Evans, Nina Ohrenberg. Sister-in-law of Betty Martin. Sister-in-law of Marian Hornsey.

Predeceased by parents Lewis and Pearl Martin, Sisters Mildred (Bert) Wilkinson, Margaret (J.P.) O’Hanlon, Galena (Bob) Miller, Wilma (Gayle) Worthington, Brother Arthur “Bob” Martin, Sister-in-law, June Martin, Brothers-in-law Edward Evans and Alvin Ohrenberg.
Dorothy was a long time member of St. James Catholic Church and the Minerva Society. She was known as a wonderful cook, gardener, and friend. She enjoyed entertaining, playing bridge, needlework, quilting, crocheting, square dancing, and fishing.
Dorothy was born on a farm where the only transportation was on horseback or by wagon. She lived to experience automobiles, jet travel, the landing of a man on the moon and regular shuttle flights to a space station.
She loved to travel and had visited all fifty states and many foreign countries, including Cuba (before Castro), Canada, Mexico, Tahiti, Bora Bora, New Zealand, Australia, India, Italy, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, England, Ireland, Haiti, Jamaica, and several other Caribbean islands.
Growing up in a large family on a farm, she learned the value of hard work and how to save money and stretch a dollar. She passed these values on to her children.
Though she experienced some health problems over the years, she continually displayed a great sense of humor. One of her doctors described her as “a tough old bird,” which she certainly was.
Her greatest gift was providing a loving, nurturing home and instilling a strong sense of family to her six children.
Memorials are to be directed to the St. James Catholic Church, 201 North Missouri Street, Potosi, Missouri.
Visitation was held Monday, May 30, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Father Richard Tillman officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. Honoring Dorothy by serving as pallbearers were: Jim Harrison, Therese Hornung, James Martin Hornsey, Stephen Hornsey, Philip Hornsey, Neil Hornsey, Brett Henry, Meredith Rakey and honorary pallbearers, Derrick Harrison, Jennifer Hornung, Jonathan Hornung and Samantha Hornung.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
