Carol Ann Horton of Potosi, Missouri was born on Monday, June 16, 1953 in Festus, Missouri a daughter of the late, Marilyn “Peggy” Elouise (Govro) Compton and Hershel Thomas Compton. Carol departed this life on Monday, June 20, 2011 at her residence having reached the age of fifty-eighty years and five days.
Carol was united in marriage to James Horton on July 7, 1991 in Commonwealth, Virginia.
Carol is survived by her husband, James Horton of Potosi, Missouri; three daughters, Leeann Compton and Erik Wickerham of Hematite, Missouri, Michelle Lee Davis and husband, Scott of Hillsboro, Missouri, Selena Ann Ivie of Potosi, Missouri; stepdaughter, Tammy Horton of Ballwin, Missouri; three brothers, Billy Compton of Morse Mill, Missouri, Timmy Compton and wife, Debbie of Festus, Missouri, Arlin Compton and companion, Allen Bragg of St. Louis, Missouri; four sisters, Diana Welker and husband, Roger of Pevely, Missouri, Margie Veleshek of St. Roberts, Missouri, Jeanette Shoemaker and husband, Mark of Fredrickburg, Virginia; six grandchildren, David, Wade, Tony, William, Joshua, Sophia; one great-grandchild, Wade, Jr.; also surviving are many aunts, many uncles, many nieces, many nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Compton.
Carol embraced her life, her work, her family and friends. Along her time on Earth she grew, learned and shared her knowledge and wisdom with other. Those who had the incredible privilege of knowing her and was fortunate to have spent time in her presence, realized without any doubt, that Carol was someone who truly made the world a better place for all to enjoy.
Carol loved her family and friends to the utmost; she was very devoted to her husband, her daughters and any children she came in contact with. She was very accepting to anyone she knew. Carol enjoyed playing bingo, scratch off’s, playing cards and dancing especially to Elvis music. She was active with the Y.M.C.A. acting as an aerobic instructor. Carol was also active with the Native American Community and enjoyed sewing all types of blankets, shirts and crossword puzzles.
Visitation was held Friday, June 24, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Christian Funeral Service was held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri Pastor Terry Crank officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Scott Davis, Erik Wickerham, Joe Whitter, Billy Compton, Timmy Compton, Arlin Compton, William Ivie and Joshua Ivie.
On Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 3:00 PM a Traditional Native American Service was conducted at the burial grounds in the Pushmorhortor Family Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri by Mr. Larry Sellers, where the family gave leave of Carol’s spirit back to The Great Father and her ancestors.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
