GEORGE HUGHES
GEORGE EDWARD HUGHES OF POTOSI, MISSOURI, WAS BORN NOVEMBER 10, 1902, IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A SON OF AZRO AND BELL (FINGERS) HUGHES. GEORGE DEPARTED THIS LIFE AT WASHINGTON COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ON NOVEMBER 23, 2000, HAVING REACHED THE AGE OF NINETY-EIGHT YEARS AND THIRTEEN DAYS.
GEORGE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO BEULA BYERS ON FEBRUARY 16, 1924, IN FARMINGTON, MISSOURI. BEULA PRECEDED GEORGE IN DEATH ON DECEMBER 21, 1992.
GEORGE IS SURVIVED BY ONE SON GALE HUGHES OF POTOSI, ONE DAUGHTER, JUNE BAKER OF ST. CLAIR, ONE SON-IN-LAW, TOM CHRISTOPHER OF INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI, SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN, TEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, SIX GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, THREE BROTHERS, CHARLES HUGHES AND WIFE JERRY LEE OF DENVER, COLORADO, JERRY HUGHES OF DIXON, VIRGIL HUGHES AND WIFE RUTH OF LEADWOOD, TWO SISTERS, LOU FERN WORNAL OF ST. LOUIS, MILDRED PARKER AND HUSBAND TOM OF FORT COLLINS, COLORADO AND BY MANY OTHER RELATIVES AND FRIENDS. GEORGE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS SPOUSE, BEULA HUGHES, HIS PARENTS, AZRO AND BELL HUGHES, ONE SON, CARL HUGHES, ONE DAUGHTER, MARY CHRISTOPHER, TWO GRANDSONS, KEITH AND MICHAEL WHALEY, TWO BROTHERS, ARTHUR AND BURL HUGHES, FIVE SISTERS, MABEL DILLOW, PEARL WORNAL, LENA GRAVES, CLARA WHITWORTH AND DELORES HUGHES.
GEORGE WAS A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE POTOSI SOUTHERN BAPTIST CHURCH WERE HE HAD BEEN ACTIVE IN MANY CHURCH AFFILIATIONS. HE WAS A FIFTY YEAR PLUS MEMBER OF THE SAMARITAN LODGE #424 AF & AM AND OF THE ORDER OF EASTERN STAR. GEORGE ENJOYED THE WORKS OF MASONRY AND THEIR MANY CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY.
GEORGE HAD A GREAT LOVE FOR HIS FAMILY AND EACH OF THEM HELD A VERY DEAR AND SPECIAL PLACE IN HIS HEART, HE NEVER FAILED TO BE A FATHER, GRANDFATHER, OR GREAT GRANDFATHER TO HIS FAMILY. GEORGE GREATLY ENJOYED THE SPORT OF GOLFING AND WAS EXTREMELY PROUD OF TEEING OFF ON HIS NINETY-SIXTH BIRTHDAY. HE ENJOYED GOING FOR RIDES IN HIS ANTIQUE CAR AND LIVING LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME.
VISITATION WAS HELD SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2000, FROM 4:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M. AT MOORE FUNERAL HOME IN POTOSI.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED MONDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2000, AT 11:00 A.M. AT THE POTOSI SOUTHERN BAPTIST CHURCH. BURIAL WAS IN BISMARCK MASONIC CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MOORE FUNERAL HOME, POTOSI.
SERVING AS PALLBEARERS WERE, JOHN BAKER, DANNY BAKER, STEVE WHALEY, DENNIS DORNBACH, JAMES WHALEY AND JIM TEMPLETON.
