ROBERT FRANCIS HURLEY OF DESOTO, MISSOUIR FORMERLY OF IRONDALE, MISSOURI WAS BORN IN ILLINOIS ON JANUARY 14, 1916. HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE VERN AND ALVA (SCHRINNER) HURLEY. ROBERT DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON MAY 14, 2003 AT THE PARKLAND HEALTH CENTER IN FARMINGTON, MISSOURI HAVING REACHED THE AGE OF EIGHTY-SEVEN YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS.
HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MABEL SUTTON ON OCTOBER 25, 1949 IN PIGOT, ARKANSAS AND TO THIS UNION FIVE CHILDREN WERE BORN.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING AND DEVOTED WIFE OF 53 YEARS, MABEL HURLEY OF DESOTO, MISSOURI, TWO DAUGHTERS, GWEN CRAMP AND HUSBAND BO OF DESOTO, MISSOURI AND ANDREA ROSS AND HUSBAND RICHARD OF LIVINGSTON, ILLINOIS, TWO SONS, KEVIN HURLEY OF DESOTO, MISSOURI AND VERN HURLEY AND WIFE CANDY OF ALTON, ILLINOIS, DAUGHTER-IN- LAW, TRISH HURLEY OF FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, TWO SISTERS, JESSIE GALIGOS OF ALTON, ILLINOIS AND OUIDA SMESTAD OF INNER GROVE HEIGHTS., MINNESOTA, ONE BROTHER, CHARLES HURLEY AND WIFE MARIE OF NIXA, MISSOURI, NINE GRANDCHILDREN, SARAH, STEPH, ADAM, NICK, JOSH, HEATHER, HOLLIE, HANNAH AND OLIVIA. IN ADDITION TO HIS PARENTS HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY ONE SON, SERGEANT MAJOR PATRICK ROBERT HURLEY WHO WAS WITH THE SPECIAL FORCES DELTA DIVISION LOST HIS LIFE FEBRUARY 21, 1991 SERVING OUR COUNTRY DURING DESERT STORM, TWO SISTERS, IONA FRETLEY AND NINA BOWMAN AND TWO BROTHERS, ALBERT HURLEY AND WESLEY HURLEY.
ROBERT SERVED HIS COUNTRY IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY, HE WAS INDUCTED ON JULY 23, 1940 AND HONORABLY DISCHARGED ON OCTOBER 22, 1947 AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI. ROBERT WAS AWARDED THE AMERICAN THEATRE CAMPAIGN RIBBON, THE AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE RIBBON WITH BRONZE STAR, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN THEATRE CAMPAIGN RIBBON AND FOUR OVERSEAS BARS. ROBERT WAS ALSO A RECIPIENT OF THE PURPLE HEART.
ROBERT ENJOYED THE MANY GIFTS OF MOTHER NATURE ESPECIALLY FISHING AND HUNTING. HE LOVED SPENDING TIME WITH HIS FAMILY. ROBERT'S COMPANION AND BEST FRIEND BIG BOY, WERE ALWAYS TOGETHER AND ENJOYED RELAXING, WATCHING T.V. OR TAKING A NAP. ROBERT WAS AN AVID VEGETABLE GARDENER AND WAS VERY PROUD OF HIS GARDEN TALENTS. ROBERT WAS A DISABLED AMERICAN VETERAN AND LONG TIME MEMBER OF THE FARMINGTON VFW POST #5896. HE WILL BE LOVINGLY REMEMBER BY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
VISITATION WAS HELD 3:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2003 AND 10:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M. ON SATURDAY, MAY 17, 2003 AT THE MOORE FUNERAL HOME, IRONDALE.
A FUNERAL SERVICE WAS CONDUCTED 1:00 P.M. ON SATURDAY, MAY 17, 2003 AT THE MOORE MEMORIAL CHAPEL WITH PASTOR DAVID WEIMER OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN THE BIG RIVER CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MOORE FUNERAL HOME, IRONDALE.
SERVING AS PALLBEARERS WERE, VERN HURLEY, KEVIN HURLEY, JOSH HURLEY, BO CRAMP, RICHARD ROSS AND MIKE MEYER.
