Roy Lee “Toppy” Kay of Potosi, Missouri was born on Monday, August 1, 1938 in Potosi, Missouri a son of the late, Mary Josephine (Boyer) Kay and John Paul Kay. Roy departed this life on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of seventy-three years, five months and eighteen days.
“Toppy” is survived by one son, Terry Kay and fiancé, Leslie Harrelson of Arnold, Missouri; one sister, Mary “Tooty” Akins of Desloge, Missouri; one brother, Lawrence “Jake” Kay of Potosi, Missouri; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, “Toppy” was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella “Marcie” Barnum, Louise Goforth, three brothers, Joe Kay, Paul “Teeter” Kay and James Donald Kay.
“Toppy” was a parishioner of the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri where he enjoyed attending Mass regularly. Toppy was prepared spiritually in his final days, by having received the Sacrament of the Sick, and the Holy Eucharist from his parish priest. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5936, Old Mines, Missouri and a life member of the Potosi Elks Lodge # 2218. “Toppy” was well known for his forty years of dedication to his job at the Potosi Auto Supply Store where he assisted many people throughout the years. “Toppy” loved visiting and socializing with anyone and everyone. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed taking walks, dancing and listening to music. “Toppy” will be forever remembered for the love and laughter he shared with his family and friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi, Missouri with Reverend Joe Welschmeyer officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Jim Harrelson, Mike Jeffries, Dennis English, Becky Goforth, Steve Akins and Karl Koch.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
