Philip Kwan of Potosi, Missouri was born on Saturday, March 30, 1946 in Auroa, Philippines a son of the late, Chick Won (Wong) Kwan and Coy Wing Kwan. Philip departed this life on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family having reached the age of sixty-six years and four days.
Philip was united in marriage to Pamela Sue Warren on November 14, 1987 in Potosi, Missouri and were blessed with five children.
Philip is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Kwan of Potosi, Missouri; three daughters, Tasha Kwan of Washington, Missouri, Olivia Kwan of Potosi, Missouri, Tiffany Kwan of Potosi, Missouri; two sons, Lt. Philip Kwan, USMC and wife, Courtney of St. Louis, Missouri, Coy Kwan of Potosi, Missouri; two sisters, Dr. Thelma Sutter, M.D. and husband, John of Lubbock, Texas, Dr. Luz Kwan, M.D. of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother, Dr. Vic W. Kwan, M.D. and wife, Alice of Potosi, Missouri; one grandson, Adam Kwan of Potosi, Missouri; mother-in-law, Carol Warren of Cadet, Missouri; also surviving are other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Philip was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Danny Warren.
Philip grew up in the Philippines living in Kapatagan. He graduated the Far Eastern University Manila, Philippines with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He worked in the mercantile business, banking business and logging business prior to his immigration to the United States in 1974. He was the owner and operator of Kwan Trucking in Potosi for more than 30 years. He had a love hate relationship with the transportation industry. He enjoyed the challenges and strategy needed in planning the transportation of perishable products. He and his wife, Pamela, had a very special relationship, spending 24 hours a day together for more than 25 years. They went to work together and came home together every day. In 25 years there was very few nights they did not spend together. Philip loved woodworking, making most of the furniture in his home. He was an avid sports fan, including baseball, football and hockey. He enjoyed gardening, almost always having a ripe tomato before the Fourth of July. Philip’s life was surrounded by his family and the trucking company. Above all else Philip loved his family and being with them. His favorite day was a day spent at home with his family. Philip will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Visitation was held Friday, April 6, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri and Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mount Pleasant United Baptist Church, Goodland, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Saturday, April 7 , 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Mount Pleasant United Baptist Church, Goodland, Missouri with Reverend Garry Mathes officiating. Honoring Philip and serving as Pallbearers were his sons, Lt. Philip A. Kwan, USMC, Coy A. Kwan, grandson, Adam G. Kwan, brother, Vic W. Kwan, brother-in-law, John Sutter, nephew, Lee Swiderek; and Dylan Stanfield, Mark Guggenberger, Justin Jenkins and Terry Voyles.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Goodland, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
