Guideon C. “Chad” Long, Jr. of Richwoods, Missouri was born on Sunday, June 9, 1912 in Festus, Missouri a son of the late, Dollie B. (Morris) Long and Guideon Chadbourne Long, Sr. Chad departed this life on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri having reached the age of ninety-five years, three months and eleven days.

Chad was united in marriage to Mary Zita Doyen in June of 1942.

Chad is survived by two sisters, Becky Laritzen of St. Peters, Missouri, Nancy Ethier and husband, Paul of Affton, Missouri; one brother, Morris Long and wife, Opal of Potosi, Missouri; also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends throughout Richwoods and the surrounding area. In addition to his parents, Chad was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Long, one sister, Rachel Richeson and one brother, Charles B. Long.

Chad was a longtime member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Richwoods, Missouri, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He belonged to the Coon Hunters Association and enjoyed hunting with his coon dogs, Lips and Hammerhead. Chad was also a charter member of the Richwoods Lions Club. He loved fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting with his wife.

During Chad’s younger years, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps, helping with the building of many projects throughout the local Missouri State Parks. The pride he and his fellow workers showed during their many construction projects was exceptional and the great quality of their accomplishments are still evident today for all to enjoy. Chad continued to serve this country he loved by enlisting in the U.S. Army on November 2, 1942 and served in the Philippines and New Guinea as a Demolition Specialist. During his outstanding military service years, Chad received the Good Conduct Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, Asiatic–Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Three Overseas Service Bars, Victory Ribbon and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. Chad received his Honorable Discharge on January 2, 1946 at Jefferson Barracks Separation Center. On January 11, 2003 Chad was presented with his World War II Recognition Medal and Medallion.

Chad was a co-owner of Mineral Area Bus Lines with Vincent Paul and was a longtime bus driver bringing Richwoods students to Potosi High School. He will be long remembered for his love and dedication to all his family and many, many friends. He was a firm believer in leaving the world a better and safer place for those who follow in life.

Visitation was held Sunday, September 23, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, September 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Richwoods, Missouri with Father George Galovich officiating.

Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Stephen Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri where Chad received full Military Honors. Serving as Pallbearers are Bill Long, Brad Long, Joe Long, Chad Long, Kyle Long, and A.J. Long.

Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
