GREGORY COLE LOOMIS OF POTOSI, MISSOURI, WAS BORN MARCH 7, 1951, IN BONNE TERRE, MISSOURI, A SON OF CLYDE ARTHUR LOOMIS AND WILMA (COLE) LOOMIS. GREG DEPARTED THIS LIFE AT THE S-F SCOUT RANCH IN FREDERICKTOWN, MISSOURI, ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2000, HAVING REACHED THE AGE OF FORTY-NINE YEARS, SIX MONTHS AND TWO DAYS.
GREG IS SURVIVED BY TWO SONS, BRENDAN JEOFFREY LOOMIS OF WEBSTER GROVES, SEAN GREGORY LOOMIS OF WEBSTER GROVES, HIS MOTHER, WILMA LOOMIS OF POTOSI, HIS FATHER, CLYDE LOOMIS OF TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA, ONE BROTHER, CLAY LOOMIS AND WIFE COLLEEN OF KIRKWOOD, A DEAR FRIEND, MIKE WALTERS OF POTOSI, EX-WIFE, SANDIE (PAUL) LOOMIS OF WEBSTER GROVES AND MANY OTHER RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.
GREG WAS A 1969 GRADUATE OF POTOSI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL WHERE HE WAS ACTIVE IN FOOTBALL, MUSIC, BAND AND A VARIETY OF CLUBS. GREG WAS A 1973 GRADUATE OF ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY IN ROCHESTER, NEW YORK AND AFTER GRADUATION HE JOINED THE SAYERS PRINTING COMPANY IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, WHERE HE DEDICATED THE PAST TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS AND WAS CURRENTLY AN ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE. GREG WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE POTOSI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND DURING HIS HIGH SCHOOL YEARS HE WORKED AT THE BOATHOUSE AT TROUT LODGE YMCA CAMP SUNNEN LAKE. GREG'S ADVENTUROUS LIFE GUIDED TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, HE BEGAN THIS JOURNEY IN 1959 AS HE JOINED THE CUB SCOUT PACK UNDER THE DIRECTION AND LEADERSHIP IN THE COL. KENNON'S TROOP. GREG BECAME A RENOWNED SCOUT THROUGHOUT HIS YEARS IN BOY SCOUTS AND EARNED TWO OF BOY SCOUTS HIGHEST AWARDS AND HONORS IN 1966, EAGLE SCOUT AND GOD AND COUNTRY AWARD. AS GREG'S ADULT LIFE IN SCOUTING CONTINUED, HE EARNED THE ADULT WOOD BADGE AWARD. GREG WAS A MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF THE ARROW, A VOLUNTEER CUB MASTER, CHAIRMEN OF THE GREATER ST. LOUIS COUNCIL ROUND TABLE, ASSISTANT SCOUT MASTER FOR TROOP #301 AND A MEMBER OF THE GREATER ST. LOUIS COUNCIL SPECIAL NEEDS COMMITTEE. GREG WAS PRIVILEGED TO SHOW HIS STRENGTH AND COMMITMENT BY ATTENDING PHILMONT BOY SCOUT HIGH ADVENTURE CAMP IN NEW MEXICO THREE TIMES, HE DID THIS AS A SCOUT HIMSELF ALONG SIDE HIS FATHER AND THEN AS A REWARDING HONOR AS A FATHER WITH BOTH OF HIS SONS.
GREG WAS A LOVING SON WHO CHERISHED HIS PARENTS DEARLY, AS A BROTHER HE ALWAYS HAD LOVE IN ALL HIS ACTIONS BUT ALSO ENJOYED THE TIME OF TEASING HIS BROTHER. A WONDERFUL FATHER WHO NEVER FAILED TO HAVE HIS SONS AS HIS FIRST PRIORITY. THROUGH HIS UPBRINGING AND EDUCATION GREG LEARNED THE VALUE OF QUALITY TIME, PATIENCE, COURAGE, AND ENDURANCE IN LIFE.
VISITATION WAS HELD TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2000, FROM 4:30 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. AT MOORE FUNERAL HOME IN POTOSI.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2000, AT 1:00 P.M. AT THE POTOSI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WITH REVEREND JOHN IRWIN OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN OLD MASONIC CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MOORE FUNERAL HOME, POTOSI.
SERVING AS PALLBEARERS WERE, ALEX EVANS, MIKE WALTERS, JIM WOOD, RANDY DURNER, ROBIN BUST AND HERB "SKIP" SAYERS. SERVING AS HONORARY PALLBEARERS WERE, JACK BUST AND KEN STUMPF.
