Mary Jo Kempf, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away September 13, 2024 at the age of 81. Born on August 31, 1943, in Burlington, Iowa, Mary Jo was known for her great sense of humor and her unwavering to her family and friends.
Mary Jo is survived by her two daughters, Anne Purcell and her husband Terry, of Mineral Point, Missouri, and Patty Lutes and her husband Melvin, from Winfield, Kansas. She also leaves behind two sons, William "Billy" Wood of Mineral Point, Missouri, and Tommy Wood and his wife Teresa, of Arkansas City, Kansas. Mary Jo cherished her role as a mother and took great pride in being a loving grandmother to her 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mary Jo had a close relationship with her four sisters: Janet Thomas of Waterloo, Illinois, Sandra Vancil of Lomax, Illinois, Nancy Rubin of Defiance, Missouri, and Carol Wakefield of Saint Louis, Missouri. The ties of family were a cornerstone of her life, and her caring and compassionate spirit touched many in her community.
Her life was filled with many joyous moments, often centered on family dinners and gatherings. She had a particular fondness for holidays and loved spending time at the casino, making lasting memories with those she adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha (Hamilton) Gaibel and Keith Gaibel, as well as her son, Ricky Oranchak.
Mary Jo's generous spirit and loving nature will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on through her cherished family and the countless lives she touched throughout her beautiful journey.
