Gladys E. McGuire of Irondale, Missouri was born on Thursday, February 10, 1921 in Mineral Point, Missouri. A daughter of the late John Jay Marr and Stella May (Cluff) Marr. Gladys departed this life on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at her residence having reached the age of eighty-five years, nine months and twenty five days.
Gladys was united in marriage to Joseph Ralph McGuire on January 2, 1937 in Caledonia, Missouri.
Gladys is survived by four daughters, Barbara and Gurney Radford of Irondale, Missouri, Frances and Jerry Osborne of Alma, Illinois, Edna and Brian Vertrees of Irondale, Missouri, Mary and Kevin Fitzwater of Bonne Terre, Missouri; one son, Bill and Joyce McGuire of Alma, Illinois; two sisters, Maudie Moss of Slater, Missouri, Mable Clark of Piedmont, Missouri; one brother, Joe and Louise Marr of Marshall, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Erma Geier of Potosi, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, George McGuire of Mineral Point, Missouri, Ralph Johnson of St. Charles, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph Ralph McGuire, one son, John G. McGuire, one brother, David Marr and one grandchild, Linda Diane Lewis.
Gladys loved spending time with her family at their many family gatherings. She enjoyed attending her church, Charity Landmark Missionary Baptist, Bismarck, Missouri. Gladys was a wonderful cook, everyone always loved her homemade rolls that would melt in your mouth. Hearing her daughters and grandchildren sing gave Gladys great joy. She had a wonderful attitude and outlook on life always thankful for the Lord’s many blessings. Gladys also enjoyed spending her spare time flower gardening. Everyone who was ever privileged to know Gladys will always be able to remember that she was a very special and loving lady and will continue to bless us with many, precious memories.
Visitation was held Wednesday, December 6, 2006 from 4:00 PM or 9:00 PM and Thursday, December 7, 2006 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri, with Pastor Lee Miller officiating. Honoring Gladys by serving as pallbearers were; Joe Horton, Don Horton, Rick Horton, Dean Osborne, Travis Osborne, Michael McGuire, Wayne Lewis, Keith Lewis, Alan Inman and Allen McGuire.
Final prayers and burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
