Steven Thomas Merx, better known as Rhino by family and friends, was born April 24, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri a son of the late Roselle (Portland) Merx and Harlen James Merx. Rhino departed this earthly life suddenly on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the age of sixty-three years, eight months and ten days.
Rhino is survived by two sons, Steven Merx and fiancé Shannon of Cadet, Missouri and Doug Howell of Farmington, Missouri; four grandchildren, Emily, Kaylee, Chelsea and Hutson; four sisters, Pam Betancourt and husband Manuel of High Ridge, Missouri, Linda Blackburn of House Springs, Missouri, Carol Merx of St. Louis, Missouri and Josephine Gutknecht and husband Kim of California; four brothers, Jim Merx and wife Becky of Cadet, David Merx and wife Cindy, Mike Merx of House Springs and Carl Merx and wife Georgia of High Ridge; a dear and special friend Rita Brooks of St. Louis, Missouri and by many other dear and special relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Rhino was also preceded in death by one sister, Rosemary Merx and one Brother-in-law Joe Blackburn.
Rhino was a member of the St. Joachim Catholic Church and was very active in its activities. He volunteered at most of the Church functions and events. He was a very dedicated member of the La Brigade Au Renault and enjoyed all the Rendezvous. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Old Mines where he was very active in all its activities. He enjoyed being out in the woods hunting, fishing and camping. He loved the many gifts of Mother Nature and always left his area better then when he arrived. Rhino’s faith and love for his Lord, Family, Friends and Life showed by his warm smile, kind words and open heart. He looked forward to any event or outing, as he knew he would be among family and friends.
