Ruth M. Meyers
Ruth Mary Meyers of Potosi, Missouri, passed away at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington on February 12, 2007, at the age of 96. She was born in Woodsfield, Ohio, on January 20, 1911, the eldest daughter of John Ambrose and Mary (Glesenkamp) Schumacher. She attended St. Sylvester’s Catholic School and Woodsfield High School. She worked in Columbus and earned her beautician’s license for the State of Ohio.
On December 30, 1943, at St. Sylvester’s Church in Woodsfield, she was married to Lt. Frank W. Meyers, USN. After Frank’s resignation from the Navy and rejoining the U.S. Forest Service, they arrived in Potosi in November of 1948 for Frank’s new assignment as Assistant Ranger of the Potosi District.
Besides her role as wife and mother, Ruth was active in Our Lady’s Sodality at St. James Church, and remained involved with the school and other parish activities through the 1950’s and 60’s.
She served 10 years as chairman of the Red Cross Blood Program in Washington County, and also served several years as a member of the Missouri State Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, Frank W. Meyers, three brothers, Alfred Schumacher of Ohio, John Schumacher of Connecticut and infant James Schumacher, and one sister Esther Foskett of Connecticut.
She is survived by her two sons, Frank J. Meyers and Wife Karen of Potosi, Philip A. Meyers and wife Teresa of Vancouver, Washington, one daughter Mary R. Koch of Potosi, a sister, Grace Froelicher of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and sister-in-law, Nell Schumacher of Woodsfield, Ohio, 23 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation for Ruth was held Thursday, February 15, 2007, from 4:30 to 9 PM, with Rosary at 8 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, February 16, 2007 at 10 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Mroczka officiating. She was laid to rest beside her husband, with final prayers and burial in the Calvary Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were grandsons, David A. Meyers, Gregory L. Koch, Philip A. Koch, George E. Meyers, Richard F. Meyers, Stephen T. Meyers, and Paul J. Meyers.
Memorial may be made for Masses in care of Moore Funeral Homes, Potosi, Missouri.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
