Edwina Carr Monroe
Edwina Francis Carr Monroe, 90, of Potosi, Missouri passed away peacefully on August 28, 2007. First child of Thelma Marie Bryan Carr and Lawrence Wesley Carr, she was born on July 7, 1917 at the Carr House in Caledonia, Missouri. Edwina was united in marriage to Donald Mansfield Monroe on June 24, 1935. Her beloved Don preceded her in death on July 10, 1993, shortly after their 58th wedding anniversary. God granted her wish to live out her days in the home they built in 1940 and where they raised their family. She is survived by her three children; Franklin Bryan Monroe, Carol Jeanne Monroe Graham and Thomas Edward Monroe.
Six grandchildren; Michael Shane Monroe, Matthew Bryan Monroe, Jeffrey Monroe Graham, Douglas Carr Graham, Thomas E. Monroe II and Katherine Jenna Tucker Monroe, survive Edwina as well as three great-grand children Tyler Bryan Monroe, Hope Mackenzie Monroe and Michael Logan Monroe. Edwina will be missed by brother-in-law, Chester H. Baker, sister-in-law, Trudy Springer Carr, son-in-law Terry L. Graham, and daughter-in-law Susan Tucker Monroe as well as four nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews.
Edwina’s first ten years were spent in Clarkton, Missouri, and during that time her sister, Evelyn Wesley Carr Baker and brother, Robert Lawrence Carr were born. To her great sorrow they preceded her in death. In 1927, the family returned to Potosi, Missouri where Edwina joined the Potosi Presbyterian Church in 1931. An active member her entire life, Edwina sang in the choir as a teenager, taught Sunday school, worked on many committees as an adult, and delighted in being one of the oldest members of the congregation.
As a Cub Scout Den mother, Edwina helped many young boys learn the love of nature and the skills of scouting. A supporter of her community, Edwina was active for many years in the Daughter’s of the Colonies and American Revolution, Ruth’s Work Basket, Washington County Health Department Well Baby Program, Potosi 4-H Club, Missouri Farm Bureau, the Washington County Library and numerous other civic and charitable organizations. She and Don had a great love for the outdoors, and she was an avid birdwatcher.
Eddie, Miss Eddie or “E” was blessed with many wonderful friends during her life, and her family is grateful and thankful for their love and support.
Memorial Services: 11:00 am September 7, 2007, Potosi Presbyterian Church, Reverend Ranshah presiding. A short reception in Church lower level will follow
