He was Honorably Discharged on January 26, 1945 having received two Purple Hearts for distinguished service and bravery in combat. He truly loved God and country, and was proud of his service in the Marine Corps.
Vince, well known to everyone as “V.T.”, attended St. Mary’s Assumption Roman Catholic Church (Society of St. Pius X) in St. Louis, Missouri. He held lifetime membership with the Disabled American Veterans; was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6996 of Potosi, Missouri, the Association of Survivors – Paratroopers WWII, the American Legion and the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was an avid reader and loved old Country music. Another great pastime for him was just being with his good friend, Alva Gilliam. Oh, how they could story together!!
He enjoyed long conversations with friends and neighbors, and ANY Marine, and always had stories to share with them. Vince never met anyone who remained a stranger for very long. He was an outgoing, affable individual with a quick wit and a ready answer for anything.
Although his career was as a Civil Engineer, his true passion was operating heavy equipment. The combination of his professional training and natural talents enabled him to flawlessly transform blueprints into many projects, not only in Washington County, but throughout the State as well.
While V. T. was somewhat of a perfectionist in his work, he was light-hearted and enjoyed good times with his family and many friends. He was genuinely a happy man.
