Robert L. Nixon of Mineral Point, Missouri was born on December 18, 1926 at the Old Fred Wisler Place in Hopewell, Missouri a son of the late, Mamie Edna (Carlyon) Nixon and Guy Nixon. Bob departed this life on January 13, 2013 at his residence having reached the age of eighty-six years and twenty-six days.
Bob was united in marriage to Alma Jean Province on June 14, 1950 in Potosi, Missouri.
Bob is survived by one daughter, Patricia Jean Whaley and husband, Bob of DeSoto, Missouri; one son, Michael Lynn Nixon and wife, Betty of Hopewell, Missouri; two brothers, Clyde Nixon and wife, Monell of Potosi, Missouri, Fred Nixon and wife, Carol of Mineral Point, Missouri; five sisters, Ruth Humphrey and husband, R.C. of Hopewell, Missouri, Margaret Sanzotera of Hopewell, Missouri, Katherine Turnbough and husband, Lindell of Mineral Point, Missouri, Myrtle Balderson and husband, Andy of Evans, Georgia, Judy Portell of St. Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren, Lisa Steinmann and husband, Scott of DeSoto, Missouri, Jeff Whaley and wife, Stephanie of DeSoto, Missouri, Shane Nixon and wife, Lori of Mineral Point, Missouri, Brandon Nixon and wife, Karen of Hopewell, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan Nixon, Austin Nixon, Carley Nixon, Makayla Nixon, Tate Steinmann, Dillon Steinmann, Isabella Whaley; five step-great-grandchildren, Chris, Skyler, Dallas, Dakota, Braeden McKinney; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jean Nixon, one brother, Guy Elmer Nixon, four sisters, Shelba Nixon, Marion Smith, Mildred Benz and June Faye Nixon.
Bob worked in his dad’s feed store, drove a school bus and owned two businesses, the skating rink in Hopewell and a construction company. He also worked construction in St. Louis as a carpenter where he retired from Local 1795 Union. He was a longtime overseer of Hopewell Cemetery. Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mineral Point, Missouri. Working in his garden, baking, woodworking and sharing stories were just a few of Bob’s favorite pastimes. He also loved spending time outdoors with Mother Nature mushroom hunting, hunting rabbits and squirrel, he was always staying busy. Bob enjoyed spending time with family and watching his grandkids and great-grandkids playing tennis and ball games. He enjoyed life and will be forever remembered by his family and many friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Hopewell Cemetery, Mineral Point, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were: Shane Nixon, Brandon Nixon, Ethan Nixon, Austin Nixon, Jeff Whaley and Scott Steinmann.
