Sgt. Gloria M. Owens of Potosi, Missouri was born on Sunday, February 19, 1967 in Potosi, Missouri and received her Very Honorable separation from this life on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the John Cochran Veterans Administration Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri having reached the age of forty-one years, one month and fifteen days.
Gloria is survived by her mother and father, Nola (Coleman) Owens and Sam Owens of Potosi, Missouri; five sisters, Barbara Owens of Belgrade, Missouri, Carol Owens of Belgrade, Missouri, Tammy Moehsmer of Union, Missouri, Janie DeClue and husband, Billy of Cadet, Missouri, Yvonne McClain of Oakville, Missouri; one brother, Sammy Owens and wife, Mary of Hampton, Virginia; friend, Michelle Coxwell of Cadet, Missouri; six nieces, five nephews, two great nieces, other relatives, many friends and fellow soldiers of the 1035th and 735th National Guard Units. Gloria was preceded in death by one nephew, Tyler DeClue.
Gloria served in the Air Force, Air Guard and was currently enlisted in the National Guard. While serving, she received the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training and many more. Gloria loved and enjoyed her career in the military and will be greatly missed by the many lives she has touched throughout the world.
She loved spending time with family, especially her nieces and nephews, who she would hug at every opportunity she had. Gloria enjoyed playing card games, bingo and listening to all types of music. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends, fishing and gardening. Gloria was a remarkable person whose memory will be cherished by all of her family and many friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, April 6, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Monday, April 7, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Monday, April 7, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Father Ted Pieper officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri where Sgt. Gloria received full military honors consisting of the firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation. Honoring Gloria by serving as pallbearers were her fellow Soldiers of the 1035th and 735th National Guard Units: Sgt. Darrell Rankin, Retired SFC Woody Walker, Sgt. Charles Shepard, SFC Raymond Alford, Sgt. Charles Stephens, MSG Tim Lowe, SSG David Heath and Warrant Officer 1 John Crochunis.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
