ORVILLE PORTELL
Orville Harold Portell of Potosi, Missouri departed this life at his home on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Orville was born on Tuesday, September 14, 1937 in Old Mines a son of the late Dorothy L. (Eckhoff) Portell and Bernard Portell.
Orville is survived by his wife Edna (Dedear) Portell of Potosi, two daughters, Cheryl Ann Brickey and husband Jon of Potosi and Sarah Jane Portell of Potosi, one son, Scott Portell and wife April of Potosi, two sisters, Jean Roberson and husband Ross of Mineral Point, Janet Gerterman and husband Dave of Wright City, Missouri, three brothers, Jerry Portell and wife Dorothy of Cherryville, Missouri, Bernard “Bunny” Portell and wife Joyce of DeSoto, Missouri, Dave Portell and wife Pat of Potosi, eight grandchildren, Alyssa, Kelly, Teddy, Cherokee, Destany, Samantha, Lorelai and Jace, one great grandchild, Brinkley and by many Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and dear and special friends.
Orville was Baptized into the Catholic Faith by Fr. Joe Welschmeyer. Orville was a longtime active member of the Potosi Elks Lodge # 2218, Potosi.
Orville, also known as Popcorn by his many family and friends was always a hard worker driving his truck. He enjoyed singing his made up songs. Orville loved cooking and enjoyed teaching his favorite recipes to others. Orville always enjoyed planting his garden and sharing his rewards with all. He would relax watching television movies with his favorite being “The Quiet Man”.
Visitation was held Monday, March 8, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi.
The Potosi Elks Lodge #2218 held a Memorial Service on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel.
Graveside Services were held Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 10:15 AM at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with Fr. Joe Welschmeyer officiating. In Honor and Thanks to Orville; Adam Kingery, Teddy Kingery, David Ames, Phillip Portell, Andrew Brewer and Chapman Colemen served as Pallbearers. Steve Boyer, Owner of Steve’s Hauling also Honored the Memory of Orville by leading the Funeral Procession.
