Vernon Lee Province
“Little Joe”
Vernon Province of Irondale, Missouri was born on Saturday, April 23, 1927 in Irondale, Missouri a son of the late, Leva Addelene (Beck) Province and Joseph Franklin Province. Vernon departed this life on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, Farmington, Missouri having reached the age of eighty years, ten months and two days.
Vernon is survived by one sister, Louise Williams and husband, Chester of Barnhart, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Bob Nixon of Irondale, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Province of Sparta, Illinois; also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Vernon was preceded in death by one sister, Alma Jean Nixon and one brother, Cecil Province.
Vernon served in the United States Army Air Force enlisting on February 27, 1946 at Lowry Field, Colorado and received an honorable discharge on February 1, 1947 at Scott Field, Illinois.
Vernon began his education in Rock Springs one room school. He enjoyed feeding all types of birds and watching a family of raccoons living in his yard for a whole year. Vernon loved Mother Nature and her many gifts. He enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing especially trout and going to Meramec Springs with his friends and having big fish fries. Vernon also enjoyed watching wrestling on television and baseball games with his favorite team being the St. Louis Cardinals.
Visitation was held Friday, February 29, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday, March 1, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Homes, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Service was held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Reverend Bill Apple officiating.
Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Hopewell Cemetery, Mineral Point, Missouri where Vernon received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, flag folding and presentation. Serving as pallbearers were: Gary Smith, Timothy Williams, Mike Nixon, Brandon Nixon, Shane Nixon, Michael Hickam, Joseph Dildine and Rusty Mathis.
Services were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
