MARY ELIZABETH SEIBERLICH
MARY ELIZABETH (SWIFT) SIMMONS SEIBERLICH PASSED AWAY SEPTEMBER 15, 2000, AT HER POTOSI, MISSOURI, HOME. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF JOHN AND BERNICE SWIFT, BORN ON FEBRUARY 8, 1920.
MARY WAS THE WIDOW OF OSCAR SIMMONS WHEN SHE MARRIED CY SEIBERLICH, WHO DIED IN 1987. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY BROTHERS, BUD AND STANLEY SWIFT OF POTOSI, AND HER SISTER, ANN BURCH OF ILLINOIS.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE HER SISTER, DOROTHY BUST PRICE OF POTOSI, AND BROTHERS, JIM AND WIFE, MARY LEE SWIFT OF WEBSTER GROVES, DON AND WIFE, BETTY SWIFT OF COLORADO, JERRY AND WIFE, JOYCE SWIFT OF FESTUS.
MARY WAS THE LOVING MOTHER TO SUSAN AND HUSBAND, RANDALL GRIGGS OF POTOSI, LOUIE AND WIFE, DEBBIE SEIBERLICH OF PARK HILLS, BETTY AND HUSBAND, LARRY MATHENIA OF CABOOL, JOHN SEIBERLICH OF POTOSI, RAY AND WIFE, DEBBIE SEIBERLICH OF POTOSI, AS WELL AS ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN, EIGHT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
IN ADDITION TO HER FULL TIME ENDEAVORS AS A HOUSEWIFE AND MOTHER, MARY CO-OWNED SIMMONS HOTEL AND GRILL, SERVED AS A HOME ROOM MOTHER AT ST. JAMES CATHOLIC SCHOOL AND AS AN ELEMENTARY COOK FOR THE POTOSI SCHOOL DISTRICT. SHE AND HER FRIENDS PREPARED MANY MONDAY NIGHT DINNERS FOR THE POTOSI LIONS CLUB AS WELL. MOST RECENTLY SHE ENJOYED TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT AT V.I.P. JEWELRY AND GIFTS WITH ROGER BILDERBACK.
MARY SEIBERLICH WAS INTRODUCED TO THE POLITICAL ARENA EARLY IN LIFE BY HER GRANDFATHER WHO SERVED AS A DEMOCRAT COUNTY JUDGE. IN THE 1940'S SHE HOSTED THEN SENATOR HARRY TRUMAN IN HER HOME AND SERVED AS POLLWORKER COVERING FOUR DECADES. SHE WAS PROUD TO CO- ORDINATE LOCAL CAMPAIGNS FOR SENATOR STUART SYMINGTON AND PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL JOHN KENNEDY. MARY WORKED AS A TAX AUDITOR FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY COLLECTOR, DEWEY DICKEY IN THE 1960'S AND REPORTED ELECTION RETURNS FOR THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.
SHE WAS AN AVID BINGO PLAYER AND FISHER WOMAN WHILE MAKING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER COMMUNITY IN THE FORM OF A PROPERTY DONATION FOR THE DR. THURMOND CITY PARK AND DONATING NUMEROUS BEAUTIFUL EMBROIDERED QUILT BLOCKS THAT WERE GIVEN TO ST. JAMES CHURCH.
ON MARCH 2, 2000, THE MISSOURI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES RECOGNIZED MARY SEIBERLICH WITH A RESOLUTION PRESENTED AT THE ANNUAL ST. PATRICKS DAY DEMOCRAT DINNER IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. THE PRESENTATION RECOGNIZED HER QUALITIES AND PRACTICES THAT MADE HER "AN OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF THE COUNTY". THE PROCLAMATION WAS SIGNED BY STEVE GAW, SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE, WAYNE CRUMP.
MARY WAS A KIND AND CARING LADY, WHO ALWAYS HAD A HELLO AND A SMILE TO EACH AND EVERYONE. SHE WILL BE SADLY MISSED BY HER MANY FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
VISITATION WAS HELD SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2000 FROM 2:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. AT THE MOORE FUNERAL HOMES. PRAYER SERVICES WERE HELD SUNDAY AT 7:00 P.M. WITH FATHER GEORGE GALOVICH. A FUNERAL MASS WAS CELEBRATED MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2000 AT 10:00 A.M. AT THE ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH WITH FATHER GEORGE GALOVICH CELEBRATING. BURIAL WAS IN THE CALVARY CEMETERY, POTOSI, MISSOURI AT 11:00 A.M. ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2000. SERVING AS PALL BEARERS WERE, BILL NOLAN, JASON SEIBERLICH, RYAN EDWARDS, STEVIE WALTON, MATT MATHENIA AND BRIAN GRAHAM. SERVICES WERE UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MOORE FUNERAL HOMES, POTOSI, MISSOURI.
